Been done before, but... MPC and PROTOOLS SYNC

I am trying to sync my friends mpc2000 to his digi001 using the digis midi ports. I've read through the old posts on this forum, and looked at his digidesign manuel, but I am still having no luck. Let me explain what I have done:

-Setup 'mpc2000' in the 'OMS Setups'
-Enabled 'Beatclock' and 'mpc2000' in the MIDI>BEATCLOCK menu
-enabled 'midi clock' going out in the mpc2000 midi/sync menu, and enabled MMC
-enabled the clock on the left side of the protools transport

I don't think im missing any steps, but thats basically what I did. The best I could get was making the mpc start/stop protools, and at one point, I had the mpc receiving clock data. That worked in the sense that protools would start/stop the mpc, and when protools was running, the mpc was playing back at the tempo specified by ProTools.

My friend would like for his mpc to be the master, and the control the protools tempo based on what the mpc does...Is this possible? I have been reading that if the mpc is the master, protools will have trouble keeping time with it, but im very very confused. Can anyone please help me make sense of this? Thanks!!

i dont understand why you would want pro tools to be control from the mpc being that its gona reocord your audio you would want to pro tools to control the mpc so pro tools keep tracks of start and stop points and keeps the mpc in line to that.

I really have no idea what point you are trying to make....I am merely talking about syncing the pro tools sequencer to the mpc sequencer with the mpc as the MASTER.

ok let me let you understand what i do and then you would understand(sorry) i do all my beats with a mpc 2000xl and a motif i got the mbox but lets say you or i have the 001 and after i get done with making my seq and putting them into song mode i want to track them into pro tools andi want every sound on its own track and lets say im using a outstanding number like sound combine from the mpc and the motif.....now i want to record all them sounds into the digi 001 but the digi 001 only has 8 analog inputs. well i can only track in 8 at a time and by using midi time code when i set up pro tools to record it will tell the mpc tha also controls the motif to play. now i got my first 8 tracks into pro tools now i have another 12 left so ill hit the rewind button on pro tools transport so it takes me back to the start of where my first 8 tracks start from and it will also tell the mpc to go back to its starting point too and i will repeat what i just did with the next 8 sounds and then the same for the last 4 tracks....so as far as my midi go i only have on cable coming from the OUT of my midi sport to the IN of my mpc i dont need the mpc to talk to pro tools. Thats what i do. now i cant understand why you would want the mpc to control the pro tools your telling me when you hit record on the mpc you want pro tools to start recording to or anything like that and if this is so why did you buy a mpc cause to me it sounds like you want to do your seq on pro tools...and most know pro tools aint really good with midi.....maybe i dont understand your need for the mpc to control pro tools but i have showed you why i do what i do. and oyea if you really need to really know how to do what you want to do look at page 464 in the owers book and it will help you out alil better homie.

Do you get a lot of latency with the MBox? Are you using PC or Mac? I was considering getting the Mbox & using it with my M auido Quattro soundcard for midi.
