digital in out spdf. Anyone ever used this as an effx send

I just recently upgraded my 2000 with the 8 out digital spdf card and Im trying to think of a good use for the spdf port. The best idea ive come up with so far is to use it as an effx send/return to go into my motu 828 and uses logic audio's plugins to process individual drums. If anyone has done this before please let me know how it worked out and what problems/successes you had.
