Upgrading My studio

Hi i havent really got a studio but i have a lot of equiopment i just want to get the next level shit i am currently using cubase and an mpc2000xl i have a pcr-30 midi keyboard and a standard cheap behringer mixer for vocals from my mic and a comprerssor for that aswell. my question is what do u think i should get i was told to get some alesis m1 mk2 monitors because the speakers i use right now is wack, i wasd also thinking about getting the digi002 with the control surface and the plug ins upgrade but im not sure what i can do with this with my current set up. what else do you recommend. thanks

I own some alesis M1 Mk2 Active monitors. They sound excellent and are right for the price. If you get the non-active, which are the one's you mentioned in your post, I think you may need to get an amp to push them..The active one's I have already have the amp built into the back of them. Great speakers.

yeah i was thinking of getting the active, is there a certain cable i need for these or do i just connect them to my recording soundcard? i was also thinking of getting a soundcard with more outs as the one i have now has just the standard 2in 2out what do you reccommend.

The alesis carries a 1/4" jack. I run some monster cables to my sound card. I really couldn't give you the best answer one sound cards. I use a Wami Rack 24 but am keeping my eyes open for a new sound setup. I have owned an Aardvark, and M Audio Audiophile 24/96 sound card. The Aardvark has the 1/4 jack input, but the Audiophile doesn't. You may want to look into a sound card that accepts the 1/4 jack and sits outside of your computer. If you come across something let me know.

My sound card has only 2 outs/2 ins. I can use up to 4 ins/ 4 outs, but I don't have all the extra equipment needed for it. It's up to you if you need all the ins/outs. I'm a one person band, an mainly use machines to I don't see the need for using all the ins/outs yet.

Just buy jack2rca cables! No need to switch soundcards. The M-audio Audiophiles are better than Aardvark and less expensive. (the 24/16 Audiophile 4in/out is only 80 bucks! )

You might want to get a better mixing desk? Behringer are really Sh*tty!! Everything that you record thru the Behringer has poor quality. No doubt.
As for speakers I would recommend Genelec.

An MPC and a 002 with a Behringer inbetween is not a pretty sight

i would definitely get good monitors, from the looks of it that's really all u need. if ur used to cubase, dont go with pro-tools. everyone i know that has converted, always goes back. instead of getting that digi002 (whch u really dont need) focus more on improving what u have, like getting a better mixer, the plus with this is, u can save money by selling ur old one.

lol. shit i wished i read this before i ordered a digi 002 it sould be comming next week. is pro tools that much different from cubase? i like cubase dont get me wrong but its all about pro tools in da studios im on a music production course so i thought id try pro tools because im alright with cubase so wen i go to a pro tools studio i want to beale to know what im doing. i got some bad equipment tho i got a korg KARMA shit looks crazy and i got a couple sound modules one of dem with the mo phat sounds on a rom.

ehh, dont get me wrong, i love pro-tools, but that's what i learned first. if ur taking an audio course ur straight. pro-tools is the industry standard (in the states at least) so it is better to learn it so u know what ur doing, the main defference between pt and cubase is the eq's and other plug-ins (so far as i can tell) but dont worry about it, you'll be used to it in no time.
