Hi, I’ve just acquired an MPC 1k. I’m planning to install JJOS2XL and I’m wondering what I need to look out for when purchasing sample packs e.g. if I download something from Loopmasters.com it’s going to work right?

Make sure that they are .wav 44.1khz and 16 bit...

Or

Make sure you have an application that can bulk convert samples to .wav 44.1khz and 16bit

Other formats like Rex, or packs specific to a specific synthesizer such as Kontakt may not work or might be missing features.

Also... if you’re planning on buying sample packs that are just the full instrument recorded over a large range of notes, you’ll want to have JJOS so that you can reprogram them into a key group.

Loopmasters are not an MPC specialist site (ironically, considering they provided some of the content in the newer MPCs) , most of their content isn't specifically made for MPC so you'll just have to load the WAV files and build your own kits etc. If they advertise the pack as coming with MPC kits, it is very unlikely that they will be guaranteed to work in JJOSXL so they might work fine (if made for MPC1000/2500) but might not work at all (if made for newer MPCs).

To my knowledge, we are the only company that caters specifically for JJOSXL and in fact many of our packs contain JJOSXL specific kits that have been built to use JJOSXL specific features (e.g. round robins) - everything we market towards JJOS is made and fully tested in an MPC running JJOS . We are also the only site that has tutorial guides for JJOS. More here:

Thanks that’s really helpful. It looks like your sample packs are the best bet. I was just tempted by the range of vintage drum machines they seemed to have sampled as that’s what I’m looking for.
