TurnTable/Stylus Problems!!

hey wasup fellas i just got my numark ttx1's and am having some trouble. Im using the s-tone arm with the Stanton Trackmaster II-RS . The stylus [the needled pointed thing] keeps tearing off piece of the vinyl when placed on the record. I think this is because I set something up wrong but im not sure what? It says to remove the stylus protective cover but i dont see one nor know what it looks like!? This is my first time dealing with turntables and im not sure what goes where...can any1 help a newb? Thanx for all replies!!

wow! new to turntables and your already scratching ? Seriously, the only thing touching the vinyl should be the tip of the stylus. That's that sharp metal thing that looks like...ehrm ...a needle. The protective cover is probably just a little piece of plastic you can take off.
If you've already done all this, and have set up your arm and needle according to the manual it should work. If not, take it back to the shop and have them set it up for ya.

p.s. can you hear music at all when you put the needle on the record?

yeah i can hear the record, but there's heavy skipping and it seems like the needle is tearing off the record. I dont know wats causing this!? After it happened i figured i'd stop and get some help before i ruin anything. any more suggestions? thanx every1.

I would look in the manual for both the turntable & the stanton needle for proper set-up. Sounds like you have the weight on the tone arm set too heavy. In the future, I would get the Shure m447 cartridge w/stylus or an Ortifon Concorde if you plan on scratching & sampling.

Im think im close to fixin' it. I think the dark gray cover over the dark wire is the protective case. Thanx for all the help yall.
