TOP 3 hardware FX box – effect pedals outboard GEAR ?

While the new MPC FX are stunning, there is something about a solid FX BOX. Whether it be built into a groovebox or a guitar pedal, this can be the secret seasoning on a track.

I posted under GEAR ADVICE b/c a solid piece of outboard gear is something we can all use. Especially if you use MPC software & all your fx sound harsh/digital.

DB TOP 3

#1] DEFAULT - MPC AIRFX
I swear by these things. My MPC LIVE is the ultimate portable hardware FX BOX with its built-in battery, I use my APC40 to give me more knobs/sliders to do damage.

#2] DJ disco sh$t – korg kaoss pad.
My favorite is actually version 2 which KORG hasn’t made in years. The 202/402 DJ mixer they used to make is also a treat.

#3] best true analog filters & OVERDRIVE – novation BS2
If u owned 1; you know.

Don't laugh ....

Zoom G3n

The effects on it are pretty solid. Not every one is a winner, but there are some great ones there. They sound good, in terms of noise floor and general synth compatibility, and the fact that you can line up five effects in a row and tweak them with the knobs on the face is good stuff.

And it won't cost you the earth. For the price of the G3n you could get maybe half a dozen cheap guitar pedals - and less flexibility.

Main downside is that your gearsnob friends will sneer so hard they get cramps in their upper lips, and it only has mono in. No sidechaining, of course, but you can do that inside the Akai world with the motherducker.

I have never heard of these ALESIS boxes, but this sweetwate review makes them look juicy.I think the sweetspot is to get 2 that complement each other well & chain FX like he does in the Hack Attack.

It's a bit of a specialist, niche device, but I have a Boss VE-500 vocal effects unit.

It's expensive (compared to many other vocal effects units), it's built like a tank, and it kicks so much ass it has a secretary keeping the list of names. It has MIDI in and will even do vocoder duty. I don't use it often, but when I do? I accept no substitutes.

This has the fringe benefit that, as much as I respect the Akai vocal effects, I save that CPU and RAM on the Akai for other duties, and just send vocals where I want them. Also, if you are running a studio and you offer that to a vocalist, they know that it didn't come off the bottom shelf. It's serious gear for working people.
