Hello. I would like to scratch samples that are not on vinyl. I am not totally sure which pieces of gear and software I need to make it happen.

I have a Technics 1200 mkii run through a normal technics dj mixer, and I use that to sample from vinyl and scratch records.

If I want to scratch original audio, mp3, wav or whatever, I believe I might need a Rane interface and Serato software? What components exactly am I missing in order to be able to scratch original audio? Thanks.

I recommend getting a Numark Scratch mixer

https://www.numark.com/product/scratch

It comes with a Serato license and has a decent Innofader cross-fader, pads to jump to cue points, fx and all the internal hardware needed to make it work with Serato. Just connect to your computer via usb. You'll just need to get a Serato control Vinyl. Your existing cartridge should be fine but you can get one optimized for playing timecode vinyl if you wish.

Thanks for that. It's got stellar reviews. I know it's a steal at $500, but I'm wondering is there a component I could add to my existing mixer that would eliminate the need for a whole new mixer? Or is this the most cost effective option? Thanks again.
