Although the minimoog voyager has been discontinued for a while there's one online seller that seems to be taking advantage for one reason or another.

Their listings show new prices (NOS - new old stock) hovering around $12 & 13k. I'm wondering who will be willing to pay that amount? Is this a trend that might take hold for other gear in the foreseeable future?

And is it really necessary to jack up prices that much, or is there something more to this that I'm not seeing?

If it's brand new... it probably makes sense for the price... since somebody looking for a new in box voyager that is in pristine condition isn't likely to find one anywhere else... you're basically paying for storage fees, keeping it in a box, not using it... worth something I guess...

Last I checked, used were around the $4-$5k mark, which seems a bit high, but way more reasonable.

I've still got my nearly fully modded Voyager, and it is an excellent synth... but what do I know.

EDIT: And just looked... of course Armen's is leading the charge here.

EDIT2: Man this is sexy https://reverb.com/item/52315694-moog-voyager-xl-moogerfooger-complete-collection-white-edition-with-lots-of-accessories-white-edition

 Yep, Armens was who I was referring to. But that XL coupled with those moogers  is just straight crazy!

IT’s a crazy time that we live in.
Food & fuel shortages
Gas is high
Homes are unaffordable
People are paying more for used EVs in CALI than the TESLA was brand new

I’ve sold some old gear solely b/c I don’t need it & got such high prices for it on ebay.

Think about the paper that you slave for !!!!!

lolol the poor bastids getting honed.... imagine paying 12k for one then you get it all hooked up, plug your ear phones in press and key and- "oh my god what the hell did i just spend 12k on? i officially have more money than brains."

at some point the option to go modular must cross peoples minds. another ridiculous expensive hobby but atleast you get EXACTLY what you want.

Well, as far as the economy is concerned these days, who knows what will be the norm.

Well, this chip shortage crap along with products being discontinued because of this crazy epidemic, is the reason I choose to hold on to my stuff too. Although I'd probably never sell my Voyager (because of sentimental & historical values), it's very tempting to see the prices being offered for this particular instrument.

BTW NearTao, have you done any reloading of the factory sounds on your Voyager? I understand it's based on midi dump info which I'm aware of, just wanted to get a different perspective from another user.

I've got the upgrade that gets you to 768 sounds, and someplace I have the old software editor for the voyager, but since moving to Mac haven't bothered to see if I could get it to work.

I found the sysex dumps to work fine, though I do kind of wish that the new MPCs could record sysex, as it'd be a great way to record/store old gear parameters... my Voyager has a few flakey knobs that probably need to be cleaned... something subtly changes whatever parameter I'm on making it think that a change was made to the current patch... though it hasn't bothered me enough to care to get it fixed.

Right now the voyager is sitting on the floor upstairs... need to figure out how to make some more room so I can get it setup back down here with the rest of the gang :D

I bought an LFE module and the voyager software update to control the modulation matrix. It’s like playing resident evil 8 on new game plus. I’m also glad to buy my voyager for 2000 when no one wanted them because the model d reissue was hot stuff.
