Christmas Bonus...

Ok I've got an MPC2000XL but what do people think the next bit of hardwear after this, would be most beneficial?

I know its hard to judge for what I personally would benefit from as you don't know anything about me, but as other beatmakers what you think?!

Just thinking of what to spend my christmas bonus on! Maybe only like a couple of hundred pounds.

I've not got alot of knowledge on different pieces of equipment and what they do. :? Although reading other posts on here has helped a little :)

id look into a midi keyboard. then some type of sound module.

but of course you'll want a mixer......too many things to choose from.

How many sounds do these sound modules have, generally? If anybody has one do they get bored of the sounds?

i wouldnt say i get bored with them. they just get exhausted after a while. just run out of things to do with them. ok, well i guess thats pretty much the same thing.

but how many sounds it comes with depends on the module.

i say it depends on what ur trying to do and get accomplished... i personally would get a mixer because ur going to need something to send everything thru incase u get more equipment later...

Any recommendations on mixers?! I know nothing about them but just searching through some now. :wink:

But what's the point of getting a mixer if you don't have anything to record into or anything else to run through the mixer (like a module)? If you've got the 8-outs card in your mp then you can eq, and make the beats sound nicer guess, but what else?
Why not buy something that will help you MAKE the music?

Just a thought.

your right but if he did get something like a module, he'll need a mixer. dont matter what order you get your shi* in, you'll eventually need it.

do you actually have a turntable yet?
if not, get a half decent turntable and a crate of records.

(im guessing you already do, but just a suggestion if you don't)

Hi, yeah I've got a turntable, its not great but it does the job. I think everyones right really I will need a mixer in the long run for when I buy other stuff in the future.

What I really want more than anything right now is to just get my beats on to my pc so I can get some opinions on my beats and maybe burn them, but thats a whole different topic and post! I'll figure it out!

when i first started to record i just used my stock soundcard and soundforge... beats sounded good... you can always get a good soundcard insted of a mixer to have more inputs and just mess with ur mix using software (i.e.. pro tools, cubase, cool edit)

Good idea :) That way I can burn to cd aswell. Right I'm looking for soundcards now :)

well, i would say a sound module.

Yeah you can exhaust the sounds, but thats if you just use straight presets.

Thing with a sound module is that they are also synths! so you can tweak, edit, layer and create entirely new sounds with your own skills.....so really the possibilities are endless if you really get in and use it.

a mixer is a good idea, however, do your tracks lack and sounds? i mean, is your bass thumping? would some nice synth sounds make your tracks better? or could you explore a differant type of producing using synth sounds?

I would focus more on filling the wholes in your tracks, not in your equipment list....a mixer might help, and it might not.

personally id get both. a decent mixer will run you like 100-200.
