i plan on buying an adat today and hooking it up from my mpc 4000 in2 my digi 002 rack but ive ran in2 a potential conflict of interest....my digi has 4 gain knobs and 4 high pass filters for inputs 1-4...could i use these for the first 4 inputs on the adat or is that strictly for 1/4" cables?also am i sacrificing sound quality/punch/bass/etc if i cant use that gain or filter on my sounds?im VERY worried my mixes will be lacking(ie lacking punch/bass/etc) if i dont use them and that theyll be uneven if i do(gain and filter only works for inputs 1-4 not 5-8)can somebody fill me in on this its buggin the hell outta me and i think i might have to get 8 outs instead what do yall suggest?educated responses only please...

Naw.

The first eight inputs are analog only.
Inputs 1 - 4 can be switched between mic or line level.
The filter switch rolls off anything generaly below 80hz and is used to get rid of rumble or any low-end information that is not needed. It's not adjustable and is not really used as an effect type filter. Usually when recording vocals this roll-off filter is used.

Your ADAT connection from you MPC will use the digital light-pipe connection. These are inputs 9-16. The s/pdif inputs are 17-18.
Your 002 can record 18 tracks at the same time. (8 analog and 10 digital)

So you are basically bypassing the 002 D/A converters when using the light-pipe inputs. So theoretically if your sounds are "chunky" to begin with, then they will retain their sound when transfered over the pipe since there is no additional A/D conversion involved.

As for gain, whenever I do a transfer my signals are generaly very hot. But you can adjust the sample output from the MPC if needed. The cool thing is that the signals may approach digital 0 but never go over in the red since the signal is a one to one replica.

I use the same setup at the crib with great results.
