MICRO KORG

seemz like the microkorg is more popular that i thought. just copped one last weekend and ive been playin wit it, reading the manual but there is shit that i dont understand like a timbre. what the phuk is a timbre. id hate to sound like a moron askin that question but im new to synths, keybords or anything other than an mpc. ive figured out huw to midi out sounds to the mpc sequencer uno channel for channel but i cant midi out more than one sound. every time i try to change a channel rather its the mpc or the korg other sounds that i didnt record starts playin in the same sequnce that i had the original sound on. how do i midi out more than one sound and if so how many sounds can i midi out? does that have to do with the timbre?

You can onli midi out one sound. I usually just sample it instead.

if what you say is true than thats terrible . but phukk it i guess ill be sampling alot of shit. but what is a timbre?

Technical definition of timbre:

Sounds may be generally characterized by pitch, loudness, and quality. Timbre is then a general term for the distinguishable characteristics of a tone. When Korg refers to the microkorg as not being multitimbral it means that it is not capable of playing more than one patch (voice, instrument,etc.) at a time.

I believe you can layer two patches(the left side of the board plays one patch while the right side plays another patch) but not on seperate midi channels

I keep telling cats micron is the jumpoff man and they still doubt.... as far as bass, it's killer. Period. You can layer a sub bass over a sub bass over a sub bass... rattle your speakers to death. You got good lowpass filter to use... between that and your eq you can be crazy with the bass. I actually use the sub bass on tons of my tracks, but I never even layered them cause it's thick enough after I eq it but I'm gonna do some more experimenting with it tomorrow probably just to give you an example to come up with and try to post it for you.

yes do not get the micro. I have its big bro the ms2000 and shit is really hurting with the 1 part multitim.

phukked up part was the micron was sittin right next to the micro korg when i bought it. i just bought it because i wanted something new to phux wit. but sh!t it cant be all that bad right? ill just use it for odds and endz and to filter sh!t.

naw kid...you gotta experiment with it and flip it. Don't go off the opinions of others. I have a micro korg and even though it only has 4 voices you can still flip it. Sh*t, I gotta MP3K with 16mb memory and I can sample in a bass from the korg and then lay another sound over the bass and then use midi to throw my last patch over the sequence. So I sample two lines from the Korg into the MP and then midi the 3rd. I still got plenty of room for drum kits, samples, and sequences. Plus you can run your own stuff through the filters. Wish i could provide you with some examples of what I use it for, but my HDR crashed and I lost all my beats thursday night.

the micro doesnt have 4 voices. it has one. U can only play one patch at a time. Dont get me wrong its a decent VA synth, but i like to be able to do a bassline, do a pad, and do a lead on one synth, not have to multitrack or sample say the bass, then the pad, then the lead.

your right...I meant to say the MK can only play 4 keys at once before it does that overlapping thing...I have always been a little frustrated that the thing only plays one patch at a time, but I paid for it and I just have to work around that fact since I can't afford anything else. Maybe once I get my Roland W-30 up and working I'll be in better shape...but until then I gotta work with the Micro and my Yamaha. I might just sell them all for the emu pk-6 though...

well sh!t just like you bro im stuck wit it and it dosent seem to be that bad either. its new to me either way cause i dont kno any thing about synth's and sh!t like that. good lookin on the look out though i appreciate the support. ill cook somthing up and bring it back.

no doubt. Just think, if you only use the MicroKorg for basslines...you will never have to purchase another keyboard or find a plug in or VST or whatever to do your bass from. Some people seriously just use it for bass lines and ish...
