Help, I need solution fast. Midi Sequence Editing Question..

Hello to one and all I am new to this board and I want to get right into the exchange of info. This is what I want to do......

1. I make my basic midi sequence on my MPC and save my seq.

2. [This is what I want to do but am having problems with] I want to import my basic 4 bar midi seq into cubases and build my breaks, chord changes, arrangement and etc....

3. Then export the song/extended seq on disc and load it back on to my mpc.

+++The problem has been: It doesn't load on my MPC right. The tracks are all off. The midi messages get screwed up and it starts in the wrong place.+++

This is how my stuff is hooked up:
XV3080 and Planet Phatt hooked directly into my mpc
**I do have a usb midi patchbay available if I need to hook my modules up to my comp directly (which I really don't want to do cuz my MPC keeps the timing so much better than my comp.

save it as midi type 1 .mid file and export it the same way and everything should be fine.
basically type 1 keeps all the tracks seperate and type 0 combines all the midi data to one track.

why dont u just do everything on the mpc??? have u tried using songmode?? what i do is make my 4 bar basic sequence, keep adding tracks, like additional kicks for the drop and other sounds to give it some changes, i might have like 15 tracks, then i copy that sequence about 10 times and on every sequence i mute the tracks i dont want so i could have an intro, verse, hook, etc, in song mode u organize them and u have your completed joint. i used to think sequenceing on the computer would be easier but then i thought about it and was like why the **** did i buy a 1,300 mpc for??? peace out

well i have come to the conclusion after like 4 years with my mpc and trying various ways of working that I spent 1300 on my mpc for the pads. it is a glorified, overpriced midi drums controller for me now, but that is just the way I like to work. sure I could sell it buy a mpd16 and a gang of other stuff, but I have the original 2000 and I am going to hang on to it.

also, anyone that doesnt understand why someone would use a computer sequencer, show me how to do a curved tempo change on just the mpc.

not an abrupt seq1 = 120bpm seq2 = 93
but have it gradually change over a bar. (with control over the curve, slope of it. as hyped as the mpc's sequencer it, it does have some limitations.

Thanx fellas I appreciate the reply's. I understand the midi 1/ midi 0 difference but I was still getting the same problems. It doesn't send any midi messages at all, such as msb/lsb, reverb, panning, and etc...

Jorge, you never used a software sequencer before have you? I been hardware only for about 2 years now and I realize my arrangements and breaks and etc... was so much more iller and creative when I had the ease and freedom of seeing the actual WHOLE seq. The freedom is ridiculous.

No Problem.....

Go into Step Edit (F1) then press Insert (F4) and turn the dial to Tempo Change. There you can adjust the tempo either by percentage or BPM. You can gradually decrease/increase by simply goin to the next step and selecting a lower/higher value and so on.

A quicker way of doin things would be to insert a tempo change on a spare sequence/track at 001.01.00 and copy it (How many times and and at what increment depends on how you want the "slope" to be), go back into step edit and lower the percentages one by one. You can even make a template and copy it into your sequence where you need it.

As with many things, it may take a little (or alot) more time to do it..... but it can be done on the MPC alone.

I'm not sure what the problem could be. There's a program that allows you to turn midi files to readable text files. Its free, its call the Midi Disassembler/Assembler. You could look at your file before and after it gets to the MPC and compare the two and see what info gets scrambled. That might help you in finding a solution.

I tried to save a sequence from the MPC on a floppy so that I could load it into Cubase VST/32; just out of curiosity. When I tried to export it into Cubase the midi file 1 was not visible. I went into my computer to check on the floppy drive and no file was visible either. I then loaded the floppy into the MPC and it does show the sequence. I'm I saving the file correctly from the MPC? Wierd.

i actually got sonar xl for my pc, but i dont use it at all. maybe its because i never got the hang of it but im happy with my mpc, i make dark hip hop, premo type ish, he sequences everything on a 60 and his beats is off the hook, why i need a computer sequencer for?? i know i could tweak ish like crazy on it but imma master the mpc inside out then maybe i'll get more technical and start using sonar, but everyone who hears my beats say their hot, i make hip hop i aint doint no movie score. 1
