I got an Oxygen 8 that i use along with some trinity and triton sound modules....you just hook the Oxygen into one of the MIDI 'in' on the MPC and you'll be able to play your internal samples on the keyboard along with the MPC pads.....So no you dont need a sound module if you get an oxygen 8, but if you do buy a sound module a midi controller keyboard is nice to have (playing all the sounds from theMPC pads are a pain in the @ss - alot easier to make melodies if you got a keyboard).....my thoughts on the oxygen 8. i've had it about a few months and i'm not a big fan of it, i think the key action is pretty shitty and the velocity always seems to get messed up on mine. I usually write melodies using the oxygen from patches from my modules, then fine tune the notes, velocity, pitch and all that jazz in the MPC (like in step edit)....a lot of ppl like the oxygen 8 though.....if you dont have any sound modules and you dont mind triggering all your samples from the MPC pads then a oxygen is a waste of money....you should get a controller after you buy a sound module - sounds are more important in making music, i would invest in more sounds before you buy something to trigger them

i had the oxygen 8 for a minute and its cool to me. if u have modules i think its a must u have a keyboard controller because the mpc wont play all the notes and your melodies will be limited, as far as quality hey its only a buck and change so u get what u pay for i guess but overall its been pretty good to me.

I love my OX8. It's my primary midi controller and when I was looking around for a new controller I seriously considered the Evolution series controllers
because it was so cheap, then my buddy got one and it gave a new defintion to the word cheap (imo-ha)

I dont use it(ox8) directly with my MPC2K though, I have another controller that I use for my drum modules and use my OX8 strictly for my rack/soft synths. I've never had any problems with mine and the power has been "on" every since I got it. I picked mine up at a Pawn shop for either 50 or 60 and it was brand new. :D
