alright, so i got my triton extreme hooked up to my MPC1000. the midi out from the triton is goin to the midi in 1 on the mpc. The midi out A from the mpc is going back to the midi in of the triton.

I'm playing back the beat on my mpc and i want to lay some keys on it but all im hearing is my beat and nothing happens when i hit the keys.

the midi channel is set to 1a and the type is set to midi and program is off.

i know someone posted this same ish but i couldn't find the thread after searching. sorry, but don't hate. any help here would be dope.

i just want to be able to hear my beat and lay some notes down over it and eventually record them sh1ts onto my beat on the mpc...

thanks in advance.

What are the audio outputs of the Triton connected to ? If you have local control enabled on the Triton and you hit a key you are going to hear something no matter how it's connected to your MPC.

yea i was checking the midi options on the mpc and the triton. i changed the local control to off on the triton and it didn't do anything, so i switched it back. i also changed the soft thru to off on the mpc.

i mean the thing thats getting me - do i need to mix the audio outputs from both the mpc and the triton to hear them both? i got the stereo outs goin to my mixer from my mpc and i got the stereo outs from my triton goin to another channel on my mixer. do i need to make sure my cross fader has got both channels picked up?

that seems kinda crappy, but i guess it makes sense since the triton and mpc are only communicating midi data???
is this right?

That's right you need to mix the audio outputs of the Triton and MPC. The MIDI connections are only passing note and controller messages between the two the pieces.

What goes down those MIDI cables is just commands saying things like "play the note C3", "stop playing the note C3".

Local Control is very useful as you'll find out as you get further into this.

If you have both the outputs from the mpc and triton to your mixer and everything connected i dont see whats your issue.

Nah, no issue now, but I guess the simplified version of my question was just if I needed to have the audio outputs from both pieces of equipment going to the mixer/speakers. The answer aparently is yes.

I'm not going to get into the other issues like local control and soft thru just yet. I am accomplishing what I want to do - I can record the midi information on my track in the mpc and hear everything playing together...i'm good now...i was just a little stupid at first.

thanks all.

We've all been there. In the fron to your manual somewhere it shows you a pictured diagram of a basic setup, you'd be surprised at how many people NEVER look at that diagram.

1k manual page 4.

first if you have your Audio cables hooked up to your Mixer,it's ok. The Problem is midi. Here's how I have my setup, try this.

Let's set your triton up first.

1. In the Triton-hit Global button- should look like this.

Bank Map-----------Korg

Power on Mode-----Memorize

System Clock-------Internal

Note* while still in Global-hit Menu, then hit Midi-you should be in Midi setup.

2. Midi-Channel--------------1 checkbox Local on

Convert Position----PreMidi note on -----All

Midi Clock Internal External Midi
External USB

use only when slaving etc ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

MIDI Filter. check all,So you don't have to go back in, Program change,Bank change etc.

Now Hit Sequence button on The Triton Extreme. Your in Sequence Mode
so the MPC can use the Program sounds from the triton (16 Channels to use).

MPC Setup;

1.hit mode key/midi-sync. receive channel -All
soft thru:as track
up to you on this / sequence change by program change:Off
Pad to internal sound:On

Sync in : Off
Sync Out: AB

Now go to main Page (MPC).
In Track 1

Go to Type: MIDI Pgm:No-1 -------------------Midi: 1 -16 /A-B

Now to play the sounds or record to the MPC sequence you can setup your

Banks and Programs changes Here.

In Pgm: No-1 hit window key: A window popsup and says Program Change.

Bank Select:NO-turn it to Yes MSB:0 LSB:0 < here's where you change in and out of your programs. If you have a Korg Manual (Triton Parameter Guide) on page 158. look at O-2a: System Preference- Bank Map.

Bank-A MSB:00 LSB:0-----------Program Change 1-127< Sounds are here.

Bank-B MSB:00 LSB:1-----------Program Change 1-127

Remember once you have this set;up , you can change your sounds from your MPC by turning Program numbers. Also make sure in Program change window you turn transmit program changes in this track to: Yes

You have any problems PM me ,we'll get it up and running. 8)

PS. If you leave Memorize on in the Korg, before you turn off, when your done and turn off, you can turn the Korg back on and it remembers the last setup. Like working in Seq/Mode. All I do now is turn on the equipment
and program in my MPC,not having to mess with the triton extreme buttons.

Make sure you have two midi cables"

A-out from MPC to the Triton
1-out from Triton to the MPC.
