hello guys im back agin on these furoms. i was playing around and decided maybe today i can go ahead and chain my setup better so i can have the extra out and in on my mpc1000. my old setup workd great but used almost all the midi inputs and outputs.

=================
my old setup on my mpc1000
-------
mpc1000 out to korgmicro in
korgmicro out to mpc1000 in
korgmicro thru to korgemx1 in
korgemx1 out to mpc1000 in
mpc1000 out to computers in

this setup straight up owns but like i said above im tryn to not use all the ins and outs on my mpc1000 espeacially sense i got so lil gear. but this setup just works great because i can use my emx1 as a midi controller or my korgmicro as one on my emx1 and vice versa, its just awesome. i like to have a setup like this where my gear can communicate with my other gear and still be on seperate channels and not midi loop on me. my computer on the other hand does not send out midi info but instead works as a slave to my setup thanks to midi clock, i can have my computer recieve midi info and record when it recieves making this setup downright elite. i wish though that soundforge had midi clock and not mtc but thatll be another thread on control surfaces and setups

=================
my other idea for having 2 midi sockets left over was this
-------
mpc1000 out to korgmicro in
korgmicro out to korgemx1 in
korgemx1 out to computers in
computers out to mpc1000 in

This for some reason doesnt work, but in theory it should. I have my korgmicro on midi channel 6 because that is what it was in my first setup. I left the midi channel the same and it works when i hit the pad on the mpc1000 I can hear the sound from my synth but when I hit a key sense local control is off I hear nothing even though its chaind to go back to the mpc1000. the other synth witch have no "local control off" witch are my emx1 and computer they can play a sound when i hit a key on them but when i hit the pad or keyboard on my mpc1000 or korg micro it doesnt play those sounds on the emx1 or computer even if i selected the midi chanell on the mpc1000 it cant find the emx1 or the computer. i even changed this setup using the thru like this

=================
i hooked up everything the same only this time i didint use the midi out on my machines the only one i used midi outs were my computer sinse it has no thru. my computer i hooked up at the end of the chain.
-------

mpc1000 out to korgmicro in
korg micro thru to korgemx1 in
korgemx1 to computer in
computer out to mpc1000 in

this setup was my dreamchild, i really thought i had it setup correctly until i hit a key no my microkorg and i think it played all the synth together at once but i dont remember. i even noticed the samthing when i hit the mpc1000 it did the same doubling effect with all my sytnh. tis strange i really thought i knew midi and here i am on this forum asking for ur ghuys help once agin :). im back to the my newbie roots can anyone help me with a better midi setup with less cables and still be able to have machines interact with eachother correctly like my first setup?

so can anyone help me out ? im tryn to use only one in and one out on my mpc to get three other things sync and workn together.

what sounds like is happening is that because the midi connections are 'looped' from and to the mpc, when you play a note on the micro, it plays the sound then sends the midi out which loops around to the midi in of the micro, thus the 'doubling' effect.

i use both ins and both outs as follows:

mpc1000 (midi in 1) <- Oxygen8
mpc1000 (midi in 2) <- 10' midi cable
mpc1000 (midi out 1)-> Virus Classic
mpc1000 (midi out 2)-> Nord Lead 3 (thru)-> EMX1

if i need to record midi from one of my devices, i just plug in the 'floating' midi cable to the output of the device and record it then disconnect when i am done.

i see ur setup goes out to ur gear but isnt goin back to mpc. how are u even recording events? lol besides ur midi controller. anyways try my first method for ur setup its elite. but remember im asking about midi chaining devices so i only use one in and one out and the rest are chaingang together i wanna chain so lets keep it on topic. i know using all out and ins on mpc is there for use but i dont wanna go that route the reason for being is becasuse i wanna be able to select in my mpc1000 slave or master. i also use a computer witch should be at the end of chain because it has no thru just out. so who here is midi literate? any engineers here who can help?

:? :shock:
Computers do have MIDI thru, the out switches from OUT to THRU.
Have your facts straight before you try to insult someone.
Anyway what you are doing is the _ _ _ _ _ way of doing it.
Just get yourself a MIDIMAN 3x8, it will give you the ability to route 3 different MIDI sources to 8 different sources.
IN A- MICRO out
IN B -EM1 out
IN C MPC out 2

OUT 1 MICRO in
OUT 2 EM1 in
OUT 3 MPC in 1
OUT 4 Computer in

Run computer out straight to MPC in 2

Then use the switches on the 3x8 to route things as needed.

my bad mang not tryn to insult no one i admit im not clear on certain things when i write down a question and forget to leave certain details out to get a question answerd correctly but u got me right and figured out, u got me what i was lookn for :)

btw i accedently hit submit tryn to qoute you sorry bout that anyways that exactly the kind of info im lookn for cause i do plan to get me a x5d here shortly and a kaospad3 and i hear horror story of mad latency with to many things chaind together.i dont own much nor do i have a latency issue here..this device will not give me the latency i hear about but this will allow me to have more things added to a small studio... if u guys are curious what this midiman is ,think of it as a hub like on a network of computers.. its the samthing it allows u to share ur one out and in and have many devices use that one midi in and out... this is how studios have so many romplers and midi devices chaind together.. the way i wanna do it is the wack ass way of doing it by having everythign chaind the way i have above .but like i said u wont notice latency unless u got a ton of gear... thanks man u saved the day this device will come in handy.....but for now ima use my first setup till get this midiman... rightn now im only using 16midi channels thats if i have my comp on...without it on i have 6 total... heres my original hook up without the midiman incase ya want to make ur master while still controlling ur other devices and allowing u to record events and keys to ur mpc. :) enjoy :)

mpc1000 out to synth in
synth out to mpc1000 in

if you had read the last paragraph of my post, you would have figured that out. and, believe it or not, some of us actually do use our midi controllers to record note/cc events. i know it's shocking, but it's true. :wink:

well derf of course ur midi controller otherwise i wouldnt have said midicontroler :) deeerrrff lol.. hence standalone on most boxes when u purchase ur gear. an example would be ur mpc1000 u can record ur own events withn it as well as have gear record events to it. my emx and my microkorg allow me to record events on there or allow me to record events to them. u dont have to own no speacial gear required. my emx is a sequencer, drummachine and synth as well as an fx processor. and i can record midi info from my micro to emx if wanted or to themselves :) i hope this helped u and others understand the true purpose of this post was to help me figure out the chain in midi let me enlighten those who dont know yet. say theres an arpigiator or an effect u want in ur setup but only one box offers it and the other one doesnt or maybe u want a certain sound.. well u chain them to get that sound u want, understood?

yes ur method works siliconmonk it was my noobie setup when i purchased my other synths and hooked them up to my mpc1000 .i got ur setup from the mpc1000 manual ;) that was when i was learning midi lol it was the most logical hook up and didnt even require a manual to know that midi is all one way .i even recorded midi events on those same boxes without transfering it to mpc1000 if u want that limited sound limited midi templates limited keys that only that one box offers, then dont chain ur setup!! lol or maybe u prefer to have all ur stuff work together like my setup, its always an option. i know its a shock to u that a setup like mine breaks all independent standalone setup limits and yes it gets wacked if more was added to the chain but that was the purpose of this post anyways, it was to keep the same idea as my first setup but have extra in and out for another thing for anotehr chain. hope u understand that i didnt want this thread i started to float off the topic. midi like american roads in a small medival capitalistic town all roads were one way. most of us post stupid question but a stupid question is one that is not asked. ;)
