Modify my computer

Alright ive already asked some comp questions, but yesterday my friend offered me his old compaq computer to me for dirt cheap, literally. Its a good computer and my job is bringin in some good money. So what i want to know is what do i need to add to it to make it compatable with the mpc, and set for recording.

Do you have any specifications for the computer? What kind of processor? How much HD space? RAM? Does it have USB? USB 2.0? IEEE-1394 (Firewire)?

If you just want to chop up samples to use on the MPC, you probably won't have to do / buy too much to get some use out of it. If you want to use it for recording you might have to spend a little money on a soundcard or audio interface.

This question is just such a big can of worms...

For your MPC you will need a Zip Drive for your PC (to transfer samples), Soundforge (to cut up samples) and perhaps something like Recycle is good too..

If you wan't to record on it and you are serious...I would steer clear from a Compaq or any generic brand they tend to cause all kinds of conflicts with Pro-Level Sound Cards and USB problems and the like, and are made cheaply as a whole including onboard sound & video which you might not be able to disable and are less upgradable for this reason (say in 2years you need to add this or that) However some people can get them to work fine...

Best method is to say right...I wan't a Delta 1010 or Digi001 and then search the web for people who have those Sound Cards then cop the same system they have...Eg: Motherboard, Memory, Video, HDD etc...

Plus, you are going to need some software too...Logic, Cubase, Nuendo, Protools, Sonar, etc... and there will be many tweaks and stuff to get it all running smoothly...

Need more info on the computer. You may be able to use it for different things. You may just need a good sound card. If not just use it to download samples and put them on zip disk.Holla back.

in my xperience compaq is one of the worst pc's to do audio on, just my experience, but you can get a dell p4 dirt cheep. (like 500 without monitor and with 256mb ram and a cd burner, NIC, graphics card etc.) For that price, I'd just flip a dell, they are real nice for PC audio stuff
