Newbie question - Hooking up a MPC to a PC

Hi,

I'm currently trying to determine what equiptment I need to use my PC for creating music.

I will be using Cubase SX as my main sequencer (with Reason rewired into it). I'm also planning on getting an MPC1000 at some point next year.

As well as using the MPC in a live situation, I want to intergrate it into my PC setup to allow me to use it for to sequencing beats for tracks I'm working on in Cubase as I reeeeally rate the groove that you can get with an MPC.

Some of the equiptment I've been looking includes the M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 soundcard and the Behringer UB1202 mixer.

Does the following method of connecting the MPC to the PC sound correct for using the MPC with Cubase

MPC stereo audio out into mixer channels
MPC midi out into Audiophile midi in
Mixer 'tape out' into Audiophile input
Audiophile output into mixer 'tape in'
Mixer main output to monitors

I am a complete novice with all this so the above suggestion may be absolutely absurd so any suggestions will be appreciated.

If you don't have any other hardware besides the computer now, you don't need a mixer at all. You can just go: mpc audio-out --> soundcard audio input. mpc midi-out ----> pc midi-in. Soundcard audio-out ----> amp/speakers.

I'll need a small mixer for recording various instruments (acoustic guitar, bass, bongos etc...) with a couple of condenser mics.

Does the method of connecting the mixer tape-out into the soundcard, then the soundcard output back into the tape-in sound correct?

I'm not sure that's ideal. But it also depends if you're playing all those instruments live, and if you need to monitor during recording.
If you plan to record everything in Cubase, i would use the mixers main out to route it to your soundcard. I think tape outs usually don't have much control over the level/gain on most mixers. You could use the soundcards output to play everything back if you hook it up to an amp/speakers directly. Or you can run the soundcards output back into the tape-in or even a spare channel on your mixer.
There's many ways you can hook up a mixer, and it's very much a personal preference. But with most small mixers you should be able to figure it all in a few hours with the manual.
Once you get the mixer and everything :See if you can borrow some cables from a friend to try some routing possibilities before you buy $100 worth of cables that you won't need in the end.
