MPC1000 and Xiosynth25 - I need a JJ-style wizard to help

ok im after the most compact solutions possible as im on my travels. i'm fully feeling the whole mpc500 steez but i already have a 1k. anyway the point is i want to add a xiosynth25, its small yet has good features and a decent synth built in BUT the b*stards at novation gave it MIDI out, but no IN.

so what? i'll tell you what- it means i cant rock the discotheque with just mpc and xio - there has to be a laptop involved to talk back to the xiosynth over usb

if any genius knows of a solution (novation sure as shyt dont) whereby i can send mpc midi data back to the xio directly then please let me know. yes i know its impossible etc as you need drivers for the mpc to transmit midi over USB etc but i aint tryin to hear that, someone please reverse my stack dump and give it full throttle on the workbench with solder guns set to stun aight peace to the gods and earth

rather than try to get a weird midi---usb thingie, you should probably

a. pick out a different keyboard
b.get a laptop

As far as portable goes, you would be better off with a laptop pretty much no matter what. How else will you save your beats, get them to cd?

Wow. So it's more of a Xosynth, then? That's quite a shocker from Novation, but I guess they're thinking that we're all going software these days.

One suggestion I have is to look for a second-hand X-Station, or even a new one, you might get a good deal since I think they're being replace by the Xiosynth.

You can buy a backpack specially designed for the X-Station/Remote series, with a handy pocket for a laptop, which I'd bet would fit the 1K.

im travelling and trying to reduce everything down to the bare minimum. i do have a laptop, a small vaio, but i dont want to use it for any part of sequencing if poss - just doesnt do it for me...edits and mastering yes, but not sequencing

i just wondered if anyone knows about this 'class compliance'? are there instances where MIDI can be transmitted over USB without a computer being involved? novation claim this board is driverless, but im guessing thats only because of native drivers in xp? either way it would be good to know.

lol at xosynth. yes novation are probably thinking who the fvck doesnt have a computer etc, but that kind of misses the point imo when the mpc range has two small units geared up for live/portable performance. one midi in would have done the job...ho hum...

good call - its a bit chunkier but i can live with that, i'll check it out. trouble is im in oz and NOTHING is cheap EVER, its ridiculous

I'm looking for a portable keyboard too to go with my MPC 1k for portability. The best thing I've seen is the Korg MicroX. 25 keys, MIDI IN/OUT and USB MIDI + the Triton sound engine!!!!!! It costs like $650 new though. I've seen them used on ebay for a little over $400.

MPC 1k/500 + MicroX = Killer portable hardware setup. I don't know if the MicroX is battery powered though so there's no guarantee you can play with it on the train.

its too big and i dont think its batt powered. i think im gonna have to cop an xstation instead

ummm that's a controller, not a synth. Why would you need MIDI In?????
