The 002 Rack is nice...The sound quality is tight as hell, so clean. I sold my Mackie 24 and now just run my stuff direct in...The reason I bought it was I was debating the whole Logic vs. PTLe and came to the conclusion that if your going to compose on hardware, roll with PTLe, if you want to compose with Virtuals then use Logic, also I wanted the ablitiy to record a mic'd drummer or band all at once so I needed the 8ins..only thing that sucks is that I have to have the 002 Rack hooked up to my computer...but if you get the Mixer version you can use it alone, which is nice but cost like a G more. A plus to the Rack version is that it's pretty light and portable. I did this thing for Detroit High School kids and showed them how to make beats on MPC, And record them into PTLe MCing or spoken word, having the ablity to set up in 10 minutes and to put all my stuff in two big bags was nice as hell...G4 Laptop, Digi002, MPC, Mic & stand and my M-Audio monitors...
Honestly I'm kinda new to using the computer to record/compose, was a die hard hardware guy for a long time. So far the only thing I've used midi in PTLE was to Start/Stop the MPC Sequncer (they use Midi Beat Clock), shit works fine. I'm trying to dig deeper with the Midi in PTLe, but I'm afraid of letting the computer become my focus point.
That $60 Midisport may work, bought it for OS updates on my other gear, I had it for a minute before I had PTLe but gave it to a friend, I couldn't get it to work in OS9, which was what I had to use it for...
