how we do. im new to this board. been making beats for about 2-3 yrs. i have a question about recording my beats.

my set up is mpc2000xl to sound blaster extigy 2.1 external soundcard. i have a single cable from the headphone jack on the mpc 1/4" to the line in on the soundcard at 1/8" headphone jack. i record to cool edit pro single track by track using the solo technique on both the mpc and cool edit pro.
i get zero distortion in between the gaps of sound when they record. i was wondering if the eb16 is worth buying because of cool edits eq and filter options and also if an analog compressor or mixer is worth buying because of cool edits compressor functions. this is highly appreciated. i just dont want to spend the money if cool edits functions are equivilant. thanks alot.

I don't think the eb16 would serve much purpose for you if you always track everything in CEP. An outboard preamp/compressor on the other hand can make recordings sound much better, just remember that with recording gear you usually get what you pay for so don't skimp here. The first thing I would do if I were you though is get a better audio interface.

I agree............a card with spdif input and if you dont have the ibm208p (8 out board for the mpc) get that as well...this way u can use the spdif outs on the mpc to the spdif in ou ur sound card........just a little something to think about
