I have a MPC2000Xl and the 8-out board. I want to be able to hook the MPC to a computer and track my beats with ProTools. Now, do I need a soundcard with 8 line in's in order to get 8 different tracks when I record in ProTools? Or is it any other way around?

That would be the easiest way...

The way around that is to midi sync to ProTools and dump your tracks 2 at a time. (If you have a 5 min song with 12 seperate tracks to dump, it will take 30 mins to get all of them into your computer  ) This pretty much defeats the purpose of having spent the extra $$$ on the 8 output expander though. I have multiple inputs.... if you can afford it.... its the best way to go.

If you want to use Pro Tools you have to have Digidesign hardware as PT won't work with anything else. If you want to record 8 tracks at once your only options are the Digi002, 002 rack and the discontinued 001(unless you want to spring for the HD setups). You can record up to 18 tracks at a time with all of these interfaces. If you're gonna run PT make sure you have a computer that can handle it cuz PT is real picky about what it works with.
