Cool Edit Pro Help!

Anyone here use Cool Edit Pro? I just got it, and what I am doing is trying to [for example purposes] have 2 tracks. One with a beat, and the other with scratches.

I record the beat on track 1, then I click the "R" to record on track 2. I start recording, and doing the scratches. I go to play it back, and it has recorded the scratches AND the beat from track 1. So now the beat is extra loud, because it's on tracks 1 and 2.

Is there any way to be able to record on track 2, without this hapening? but still be able to hear track one so I can have the scratches on beat?

At the risk of asking a stupid question, have you tried to record when you're not in multitrack mode? And then insert it in multitrack mode when you're done?

Edit - I just saw the part about being able to hear track one so i can have the scratches on beat - without playing your track through something else (external media player), I can't think of how to do this.

I know someone out there knows how to do this.....

Have you tried to make the track seperate save and then mix paste.
play around with the mix paste soon you will have it down.

I have cool edit. on multitrack. click the wave file on track 2. (right click) and adjust the volume. simple.

or set your input volume

What other gear do you have? I think I know what's wrong but it would help if I knew what else you're using, mixer, soundcard, etc. It sounds like you're recording the output from the computer as well as the input source which means you have something setup wrong somewhere in the signal chain. Also make sure to unarm the first track before you arm the second one.

The computer play back needs to be monitered and not recorded what type of mixer do you have????

I'm using a Rane TTM-54 mixer. A generic soundcard that came with my motherboard, and basically just running the Line Out of my mixer into the line in on the soundcard. I tried playing it back to monitor it through my headphones, but then how am I supposed to mix another song in if it can't be monitored through speakers? But when I went to play it back through the headphones, there was nothing there, only through the computer speakers it was heard. I'll keep fooling around with it. Thanks for the continued help.

If i am correct that is a dj mixer if you can you have to send the line out from the computer into a channel on the mixer that does not re transmit to your computer line in when you record if it is not possible with your current set up a inexpensive 4 channel mixer may do the trick for you

Cool, that might be the problem, thanks for the help. Could you possibly post a link of the exact kind of mixer you're talking about? Also, I've seen external sound cards for around $50, are you farmiliar with those at all?

I hope i'm understanding this correctly, but in your mixer you have one channel playing the beat and your cutting the record on the other channel right? So the beat is being recorded with the scratches. I think all you have to do is plug your headphones (or line to amp) into your computers out - instead of having it go through the mixer. you should be able to hear your scratching in your headphones if its running through the computer. just play your beat off of the computer and record your scratching (only skratches going through the mixer). hope i understood you and you understood me and i helped.
