Help me decide whether to get an MPC2000...

Hi,

I am thinking of getting a second hand MPC2000 and would like people's advice as it will be the first piece of hardware I've bought. I make hip-hop based music and currently do all of it on a PC with Cubase, ReCycle, Wavelab and a load of samples. I've read all about the MPC's and would like to get my hands on one.

I'd just like to know how I can incorporate it into my PC set up. Would it work? Is it a case of making beats on the MPC, then exporting them to Cubase?

Any thoughts and suggestions gratefully accepted.

mpc2000xl <-- Check that site, it will give you an idea on what you are buying. I highly recommend getting an MPC, not because it's going to make you the hottest producer in town (it only does what you tell it to do, don't expect any miracles), but simply because it is so much fun to use. In fact it is the most fun you'll ever have with your pants on.

You see, this is what I'm thinking. Just looking at one makes me want to get one. I think it will be a piece of kit that will inspire me to come up with better beats.

BUT - I'd still like to know how I can incorporate it into my PC set up. Do people on here tend to use it as a stand-alone piece of kit?

hehe I know how you feel..


But back to the topic. I never use a pc with mine, but i think a majority of people in here use a pc to some extent. Go check these studio pics and you'll know what i mean Some of them aren't showing, at least not on my screen..

Get Fruity Loops, man I wish I did, but did I wouldn't be making all those bangin beats with my MPC. I was actually joking, but since you are already "really" PC based you might want to incorporate a PC sequencer versus the MPC. I love my MPC and wouldn't trade it for NOTHING and so wouldn't other countless producers, that should help you make your decision. I personally feel like, it doesn't matter what you do it with as long as you get the job done. When I hear music, I don't hear what equip. was used EVEN though sometimes you can tell an MPC beat. What's your genre? What type of style? The PC and MPC are the BEST combo hands down, but the questions you have will have to be trial and error IF you get one. Peace

Thanks Bboutit. Do you use a PC with an MPC then? My genre's hip-hop and beat making. That's why I'm so interested in getting an MPC - you read so much about how they've been THE piece of kit for hip-hop beats.

I like to have the option of freakin both. I couldn't even think about music production without one. Them MPC is my workhorse. I sequence my synths and soft synths with it. Beats feel so much better to make when your tappen them out instead of clicking and painting your beats out on a timeline. It's really easy to pick up also. The 2000xl is cool because of the options. I mainly use the computer to edit and store samples and then track and master beats. Both of em work mad nice together.

PC for samples and programs and MPC for all the MEAT. And like was said above "Beats feel so much better to make when your tappen them out " They really do!

Definitley look into the MPC1000. Its a little cheaper. Easily connects you a computer and has some out-of-the-box features that the 2000 doesn't have

Get yourself an MPC and record/multitrack on your cubase and mix it/use effects, etc... make all the beats on the MPC and record your beats into cubase and tweak them there...

go to a music store that has them and ask to test them......I go to Sam Ash and have a field day.......I might go for something as simple as guitar strings and play my way thru the store.......for people like us music stores are like toy stores to kids......go try them out and ask them many questions.....and if the clerk cant help you get his manager......cause that prick should be able to answer all of your questions

I use logic with the mpc2000. I still bang out the beats on the pads, I just record the midi data in logic so all my sequencing is done in logic...unbelievably sick. I'm sure you could do similar with cubase. You get the feel of using the pads, with a way more powerful sequencer. But you could also do your sequencing on the mpc, then just record into your software program, both ways are cool.
