MPC + Reason = The bomb!

I purchased reason last week and I was really impressed with features and sounds. My life just got easier! Here is my current set up:

MPC 2000xl
Triton
Proteus 2000/with mo phatt chip
Roland XV-5050
MOTU 324
Logic 5.2

Now with the addition of reason I will be selling my XV-5050 because the sounds in reason combined with flexibility is a deadly combo. I use the MPC as the brains of the operation meaning I still sequence in the MPC but use reason as a sound module. The beauty of it all is the samplers in reason. Why sample in the MPC anymore when you can edit all you want on your PC and never have to transfer anything into the MPC, except for drums and you really don't have to do that. This just made my life easy! You can run as many samplers as you want & add effects the whole nine. This shit has just changed the way I make beats and it is easy as hell. Don't sleep on reason it is a beautiful thing and I have only had it for a week talk to me in a month!

Dont forget you may get latency issues using a MPC to sequence Reason!!! It may not be as tight as you would like unless it is synced with TIMECODE....!!! you wouldn't get this using the Reason sequencer as its all internal!!!

Well, I like the feel of the MPC timing and the pads and I am use to it.

Latency is not an issue for me at all. I play keys on the triton which triggers sounds in reason which is then recorded into the MPC sequencer. What more can I ask for?

I will be willing to let the 5050 go for $580. It is brand new I had for about 5 months very limited use not a scratch on it. I think the key for any producer is feasibility and efficiency. Why spend hours doing technical stuff like tuning samples in soundforge then export to the mpc and then back to soundforge if it requires more editing when you can do it on the PC, sample stretch and tune in a matter of minutes on the pc and sequence in the MPC. That is the best of both worlds cuz technical crap will sometimes kill my creative mood.

What I am saying is I can edit samples on my pc and then place them into the one of the samplers in reason in a matter of minutes and then use the MPC to trigger the samples in reason and record that in the MPC sequencer.

Well, when it comes to multi-tracking into Logic you might not think Latency is an issue... but it will become an issue I can guarantee!!

I would be using Logic plus EXS sampler if I were you.... Arrange your compositions in Reason and on the MPC as you say, then print the MIDI into Logic and load the samples from Reason into logic., then you will have an awsome base to mixdown your work and you will not have crazy ass sync MIDI issues...

That is something to consider. I also have a Yamaha AW4416 digital mixer/ OR2 that I send my sounds threw before they go into logic so I'm not sure if this will help since I have not mutitracked with reason yet. I will experiment this weekend fa sho. Thanks for the input.

how do u have the synth hooked up to the mpc AND reason? do u have the midi in connected to ur synth and the out connected to ur mpc? i figured u could use both together. i want to beat out my drums on the mpc and most of the rest in reason.

yes how do you use your mpc as the master sequencer and your computer as a sound modual!??? That is what I want to do. I have mpc2000xl a mac with logic & protools digi001 usb/midi keyboard controller and a mac g4.

The way I had things connected I was using Midi Sport 4X4 and Midi Keyboard with Reason on 1A-16A on the MP

and the Motif was on 1B- 16B on the MP

I see you wasn't using a Midi Keyboard only the Triton

I would like to use only my Motif with Reason & my MP at the same time
( I just like the feel of my Motif weighted keys better)

give me a play by play on what / how you have your setup connected

i jus Downloaded the reason demo and played with it.... it's great, think i'm gonna buy it

as of right now i have my synth connected to my soundcard via midi/pc connector. thats how i use it with reason. i have my mpc hooked up to a tascam us-122, which is connected to my pc.

I'm not familiar with the Tascam what is it? and what does it do

its a usb/audio/midi interface. provides phantom power w/ 2 mic outs, 4 line/guitar in ports and midi in/out port. i dont use the midi in/out yet though. i have my mpc plugged into the line in port. for reason i have my synth connected to my pc w/ a midiman cable
