Yo! Turntable question...

I've gotten some old 80's vinyls from my grandmother that I would like to sample for the 1st time. I've NEVER used a turntable and I've NEVER seen a record player/turntable in live playing mode....So Im new to everything Vinyl related. But, I've had my 500 for a couple months now and I feel it's time to get my hands on a turntable because if you've got nothing to sample, what do you got? lol

So, Im looking at NuMark turntables on eBay and i stumbled upon this one. Would this one connect to my Mpc500 and is it a good, genuine turntable?

Okay I just barely have had my MPC500 for 2 days now but i have been a DJ for about 5 years now... In order for you to connect a turntable to the MPC you also need a mixer... So your looking at spending a good amount. Honestly you dont need a great turntable unless you will be sampling your scratches (in that case buy Techs) but since your just sampling the Numarks are fine. Just make sure to buy good needles for good sound and your mixer also determines your sound quality... But stick to something simple like a Numark or a beginners Vestax... Vestax and Rane are probably the best brands for mixers Id say though...

But going the Numark route is perfect... They are good stuff and they dont cost much.
Numark is actually the turntables I started with...

The USB connection on the other is pretty tight though.

Dude the seller never mentions the needle... So look into that... Numarks always come with atleast the "Groove Tool Needle"

ay man! yea, im only 17 so i've had no experience in anything except for FL6 and FL7. I got introduced to Dilla, so now im on a mission to make beats like him. im just trying to get out on the right foot right now. So, Im not trying to scratch or anything, just trying to get some samples to loop and lay down some of my own stuff on top. i didn't know i needed a mixer to hook up a turntable to the 500. seeing as how i do, any ideas for a beginner like myself for a good mixer? maybe a numark mixer to go with the numark turntable im getting. which one? for a good price, also.

Yeah Im 20... As far as scratching goes, you can cheat with the MPC. You can sample a simple baby scratch that you have done on the MPC, chop it up and put it on different pads and hit them in different sequences to make one simple scratch sound like your rippN that shizz up. LoL I have done that before with my Sony Acid software. LMAO

As far as using a mixer... This would be fine... This was my first mixer which I will be using now to sample with...

(yea i live down in arkansas, so there are ABSOLUTELY NO mpc users around my area, so all the learning for me on how to use mixers, turntables,music software, midi, mpc's, is just gonna be from the manual and a lot of help from you guys on here.) i wish i was able to help others out, because like 95% of my posts on here are questions, not answers. so when i start answering questions on here, then i know im getting the hang of what im doing.

Same here man... Im from Cali, like 15 minutes from LA but I only know one cat who has a studio with an Akai MPC2500, a Triton and various other stuff. So Im pretty lost with all this shizz to man.

here's what you need to know :

if your goal is basically chopping up your grandma's lps you just need a turntable and a mixer... the cheapest will do it for sure. You just plug your turntable in the mixer , the mixer in the mpc et voilà!

read your GODAMN MANUAL KID EVERYTHING'S THERE!!

you'll only need cables to link the mixer to the mpc as your turntable will probably have its own ones.

rca to 1/4 if your mixer's output are RCA ( i assume the mpc500's inputs are 1/4 like my mpc1000 )


but seriously ... read your manual i dont even get why you asked those questions first..

oh and if by any chance you have a computer... buy a usb turntable ( they're around 200$ )

well thanx, but i do read my g******* manual, but it shows a picture of the back of my 500 then, on the "R" and "L" output's it shows 2 things below.....a mixer and a turntable. now, i wasn't sure if it meant either one could be plugged directly into the 500, or if it meant you had to get a mixer hooked up first, THEN you hook ur turntable into the mixer. now i know. i swear everybody just about on here tells everybody to read the manual, it's "your best friend", but sometimes if your not %100 sure about something and you don't want to go out and spend $100 on something ur not sure about or whatever, then your going to want to ask some people who have already done what your trying to do. that's the whole point of the forums, right? i read my manual, homie.

i set up some decks last night for an event, they were stantons, and they have a switchable line/phono out. you could go straight from this into your mpc, no mixer!
