Help needed with mixing board and monitoring vocals

hello. I recently moved and I am having trouble remembering where to run my track into my mixer "yamaha mt400 4track" so that I can monitor The TRACK and VOCALS while recording. It seems like no matter what I do, my recording source always picks up the track and vocals instead of just the vocals.....I am running my vocals into channel one and directly out of channel one. I run the performance track into my stereo input, and adjust the level using the monitor knob. This is also set on stereo. Any help would be greatl appreciated...as always. Jimmy

Are you just using the MT400 as a mixer to record to another source or are you tracking everything in the MT400? Either way make sure you're turning the volume on your speakers all the way down when tracking the vocals.
