Akai Remix 16

Anybody ever mess with this MPC-styled DJ mixer from yesteryear?

I remember seeing one in the store baaack in the day before I knew what was up and I thought it was just like a mini MPC.

Looks like it had multiple sample rates and MIDI! If I remember correctly you could flip the fader and do a fake "scratch" with any sample on the pad-

It could definitely sit next to the S20 in the pre-Numark Akai phrase sampler museum.

What a cute sweetie. It's almost the bigbrother to the mpc-500.

I suddenly want one really bad.

The live loop function on these are unreal and simple...this should have been incorporated into the mpc.

i have one beast like this!
i never knew that somene could remember this...
i bought it in the prehistorical 1996....for live acting is really good...for composing is not that good (not a metronome, a 4-tracks sequencecer without tempo, 1 bank, zero fx, not sensitives pads)...i think it really came out just one year BEFORE mpc 2000 or something...pitching is very good indeed...crossfading also...scratching so and so....maybe if you couple it with an mpc 1000 or 500 or a 2000xl you can have more interesting features (sensitivity+ROLL) because it works well in midi.
it's a machine that was studied essentially for live djing. and the live loop function helps you for this.
it works in 16bit, it sound very good.

Hello everyone. This is my first post.
The Remix16 is very cool. I used it MIDIed up to various drum machines that would allow you to assign each pad a MIDI note number as the Remix16 would also allow you to assign each of one of the 16 pseudo-pads( they are actually buttons, click on/off ) one or a range of numbers. I considered this the "poor mans" MPC. I bought the Remix16 second hand in the early 90s for cheap because someone stole most of my studio gear while I was at work. At the time I was broke as f*ck and simply could not afford to re-up all my gear. Some of it was eventually returned via pawn shop theft checks( ALWAYS keep an inventory of your gear and engrave your name somewhere on it too....on the inside of whatever it is.....)
The dumb f*ck who tried to pawn my s950 had actually upgraded the memory before trying to get a loan on it. I was glad to have it back....and it was improved. Still have it, too!
Back to the Remix16. I still have that also. The resample function is killer. The overall ease of use is killer. It can use various floppies ie. S900-950,etc. The wierd "scratch" function is actually usefull and not as lame as it sounds. Start with the slider all the way up or down, select your sample and move very slow in the opposite direction of the slider pots position. Very strange "digital searching" sounds with a strange detuned release. Kind of like a Simmons drum electro sound, you know BEE-EEEWWWWwwwwww. AHHH, whatever, sorry for rambling. If you see one of the machines, snag it!

I have a Remix 16 which I couple with the MPC1000, they indeed works well together.

However, one of my pads doesn't work properly - you really have to push hard to get a contact, whereas all the others are feather-light. Does anyone know if its something difficult to fix, or should a good electronics shop be able to sort it out?

I took apart a drum machine of mine and all I had to do was rub an eraser over some of the contacts underneath the pads to clean them off and get them functioning again, I'm not sure what the internals of the Remix 16 look like though. Most pads though have a copper or some sort of metal contact below them and over the years the rubber from the pads wears off onto that contact, dirtying it up and making it harder and harder to trigger the pad.
