Im looking to purchase a memory source for my mpc2000xl and I was wondering if anyone had any opinions and/or suggestions about working with a zip drive (internal or external) or an external cd rom. Why would you recommend one over the other?

I would take the zip over the cd rom drive( i have both). The cd rom can only load sounds into the mp, the zip can load sounds that you have saved on it.The zip can also save sequences and load them.
Flopy disc's are limited compared to zips.I would go with an internal zip drive kit from akai for about
$100 us.You can always get audio sample cds to sample to the mp, insted of cd roms.My 2 cents.....

also.....a zip drive does not affect memory at all.....you're still gonna need the 32 mbs to fully get down.......

Thanks for the input. One more question, would you prefer an internal zip drive to an external one and why? I would imagine it would be easier to save from the zip to a hard drive if i wanted to save memory if i had an external zip?

Personaly i like the internal zip best because now its part of your mp, and no external power supply or cables are needed. Also when you move your mp you don't have to haul around an extra pice of gear. The move from floopy to zip is one of the best up grades you can make.As far as your second question i didn't get it. A hard drive for the mp is a good idea if you cant back up your sounds on a computer.

look mane, a zip drive be it internal(which is good) or external(whatever's clever) or a HD does notDOES NOT affect memoryother than to store your files for use whenever....You will still need 32 mbs and of course having a hd does not give you any significant advantage memory wise other than to store whatever it is you have in memory for use at a later date......just get a zip drive and be done with it, mane...........

I've got the internal and external zip drives with my Mpc. The external is the backup as I am now on my second internal drive as the first one blew up! I also have an external CD rom drive which I attach only when I need to load sounds from my emu sound catalogue. The more strings you can add to your bow, the better, dont limit yourself.
