need some help with MTC please

Hi
Trying to slave cubase studio 4 to my MPC 2000xl. I could really do with some help. It sort of works but not properly. When I'm recording in cubase it doesn't record the midi notes in the right places, it basically doesn't resemble my tune at all. What am I doing wrong?

My MPC midi/sync screen:

Sync in is off
Receive mmc is off

Sync Out is set to A
Mode is MTC
Frame rate is 30
Send MMC is on

In cubase project sync set up

Time code source is MTC
midi time code source is MPC A

Lock frame is 1
drop out frames is 3
inhibit restart is 500

I've tried to activate the mmc and set the input the mpc A but each time i select ok then go back to the page MMC is deactivated again...could this be my problem?

External sync is activated in the transport pull down menu

On the mpc main screen i've got multitrack mode selected and the midi out is 1A device 01 as i've got 1 selected on my cubase midi track. soft thru is off.

If anyone could help that would be great. I've been trying different things for days and can't work it out. Cheers

I've tried too, are you using the mpc as the sequencer? If your using the mpc for drums and cubase as your sequencer, turn off track monitoring when you want to record a mpc sample based midi track. I left it on, and got terrible monitoring feedback. I doubt thats it, experiment with ableton live the trial. I got my mpc2kxl synced with it, so far.. try setting your mpc to DRUM1: 1adevicea1 it plays the sample on your mpc and delivers midi data..

I'm using the Mpc as a sequencers initially then i'm trying to record those sequenced parts into cubase as midi for further editing and composition. I've got the right track selected but still dont know what im doing wrong. Can anyone else help?

I usually let the mpc slave to the daw (Nuendo) via mtc.
You can also get your play data laid down doing it this way as well (depending on how your midi is config'd & routed).

Have you tried syncing via midi clock? Sometimes midi clock sync's better in these situations.

Make sure you have the latest OS installed on your 2000XL. (Probably not the issue but just in case).

I've been trying a similar set-up; using the MPC to sequence vst's in Ableton Live and then tracking the midi information. The beginning of my loops are always messed up for some reason. So far the only solution seems to be saving the midi information on the MPC as midi tracks and then just transferring them to the computer (using floppy disk in your case I guess) and dumping them in your soft sequencer.

However, I'd also prefer to track the midi. I haven't fiddled around with the set-up lately. Maybe tonight I'll mess around with it and see if I can trouble shoot.
