Mpc 1000 to Ableton Live 8 help

I recently bought an mpc 1000 and I am trying to run it through Ableton Live with no sucess here is the steps I have done...
1. I have a Hoya midi to usb cable I connected both to the correct in and out jacks
2. on the mpc(running on jj os free) I have the 9 pad settings as
all channels, soft thru as track, sequence change off, internal sound on sync in off sync out on
3. on the main window of the mpc I have the right corner midi as 1a(which is where my cables are connected) and I had type as drum as midi but i turned them off

On ableton
1. I went to midi preference and ive tried a few ways but right now I put input and output as mpc 1000 port 1
2. mpc 1000 port 1 input track sync and remote are all on
3. mpc 1000 port 1 output has track and remote on
4.taker over mode is value scaling
5. I created a midi track added a drum rack and a sample have record on my not signal from midi on the right top corner of ableton
also on the hoya midi to usb to the in and out light is not on

first of all there is a tutorial ebook from the tutor with exactly this topic. i will buy it in the next time!

to run it thru ableton you need a audio track. maybe a soundcard.

Mpc usb is only for file transfer. You need midi out mpc -> midi in computer.

If you connect the midi cables of your Hoya device to mpc and usb to computer, it should work no probs.

.....first of all..... try the search function....what's the difference between midi and audio...

and then try the search function on your topic.....wow....answers all over the place....

reading manuals is also a good thing....specially when you got no clue at all......

In the top part the way the OP wrote it he actually disabled MIDI out on the MPC.

Second part is too hard to follow because he's most likely controlling a drum rack over MIDI and he's talking about trying to record a sample from the MPC. So I think he got something twisted there.

I'm copy/pasting this from an old thread I posted in.

"If you want to just load some sounds that the pads will trigger a Drum Rack in Live's Instrument folder is the easiest thing. Just drag the one that says "Drum Rack" (It's empty). Drag and drop samples (and FX if you want) onto the individual pads from Live's browser.

In "View" on Live's top toolbar select "In/Out", then each Audio and MIDI channel will show the routing. Select "MIDI From" as either "All Ins" (default) or choose the MPD18 specifically (to make the MIDI you send to that channel exclusive and not trigger other instruments on other channels). Press the Rec Monitor button at the bottom of the MIDI channel that the Drum Rack is on.

Drum Racks start with MIDI note # 60 on the first pad, but to the left of the 16 pad grid there is a box that allows you select a group of 16 notes over 7 octaves. A MIDI controller will control whatever box of 16 are highlighted if it's pads are programmed like this

Pad 2 - Note # 62
Pad 3 - Note # 64
Pad 4 - Note # 65
Pad 5 - Note # 67

The square highlight box on the right side of the drum rack with the 128 squares can also be used to target what pads will be triggered. I believe the pads can just be in chromatic order from Note #36 and up and it will trigger the pads, if you don't want to manually make the MIDI Note # assignments listed above.





To make a pad press trigger the whole sample highlight the pad and press the third circular icon on the far left of the Drum Rack. Now you have a waveform view and controls for each sample/pad. Set the release on the ADSR envelope controls to maximum.



I don't know if you've used "Slice To MIDI/Drum Rack" in Live yet. It's really dope, you just right click on a loop and will auto assign it to a Drum Rack chopped with a MIDI file to trigger it similar to Recycle. The chops can be Live built in detection routines or slices (warp markers) that you placed manually.

Most likely the OP wants "MPC1000 as Master, Ableton Live as Slave" in the list of instructions.

And the book for sale here is excellent and could save a lot of time in the learning process.

Just some copy/paste of an older post I had and some Google image search. I had no internet for the first three years I made beats so I really feel for the guys who get buried right away. Hopefully 2-5 minutes making a post might save somebody hours.

A lot of times the OP's never come back so you just don't know...but sometimes I'll just post stuff anyway so a more recent thread has it.
