Loose and Wobbley Data Wheel

I just bought a brand new mpc1000, I noticed the data wheel seems a little loose and wobbley, It fuctions fine but it seems like it is gonna break really easily.
Are all MPC1000 built like this, how sturdy is your wheel?

mines not wobbley at all, its firm, just like the volume/rec gain knobs.

yeah mines like that but it gets the job done so i cant complain...

Yep mines pretty loose too, but I spin the thing darn fast all the time so no problem.

Yeah, a bit wobbley. Does not have a "solid" feel--a bit "dainty." But works fine--no problems.

Also I noticed that some pads are more sensitive thans others. Some pads will work simply by brushing them, some pads needs some more force, is that normal as well?

you have to train them pads, with the use theyll get more responsible
though mine were always OK

I assume you can just change the velocity of each pad, which is probably the current case. Is this true? I don't have an mpc yet, I'm just guessing based on past comments.

The velocity is at max, even though I'm not sure if that makes a difference when playing? I'll work with it for the rest of the week, maybe I'm just being extremely picky, but doing double taps on some pads is alot harder do on others. Seems like a pad consistency problem to me.

You can always check the Pad Sensitivity page in the newer OS's. If your in the old OS its hidden so i recommend you update. Then its in Mode -> Other

And yes my data wheel seemed a little flimsy when i got my mpc.. but i been raggin it around for 11 months now and its worked fine... i actually like the lightness of it now. can work up some speed on it hahah

Cool, didn't know about the pad sensitivity. I'll give it a shot tommorrow, thanks! When you said hidden, where is it hidden or is it completeley hidden in the olos OS.

Pad Sensitivity Tweak:
note: From MPC1000 OS 1.04 on, this feature is no longer hidden: the pad sensitivity can be modified at Mode / Other / Pad.

Select Mode / Other;
Press Shift and F4.
On the next screen, you can adjust the sensitivity, with a velocity bar graph showing the output. The general idea is that your hardest hits should give maximum velocity output.

I think the data wheel is a little loose and gives a little because its supposed to be used alot. If it were really stiff, it would eventually get broken in, and loose which would be bad cuz it would cause rubbing, and uneven pressure. The looseness accomidates our ridiculous amount of spinning.

Hey, can anyone tell me if there is a shortcut with the wheel? When I want to assign a sample to a pad in the program screen, sometimes i have to spin the wheel a million times to get to the end of the memory list. When i have already loaded up 3 or 4 kits, the samples I load after appear so far down, it takes for ever to scroll to... I wish you could hold down the shift and the data wheel to move in 10's or from one end to another...
