Does having an internal HD affect ur pads?

wats up forums. I'm a fairly new user but been scoping the boards for a month or so now. I've gota say the search facility on here could be a touch more user-friendly so I don't think I am repeating any old posts but if I am this one will soon fade into obscurity anyway so no harm done.

I just bought a blue 1K off this dude who's been performing live with it for a couple years, and he bought it off his friend too. no pad issues but it does have the old separate pads. before u all tell me "oh man your pads are gonna die any day now your an idiot" yeah i've thought about it but i got it at a good price so I'm happy with my purchase for now.

I've read that one theory about the old pads dying was that the glue they used cant withstand heat and separates from the sensors or something like that. I've been thinking all along while i dreamt of getting a 1K that I would install an internal HD straight away, but now I'm not so sure...
Seeing as I've got the old pads I might assume that some time in the near future the glue will falter - will having a hard drive installed directly under my pads increase the heat on the sensors therefore increase the likelihood that the glue will melt or whatever it does when it does what it does??? i don't see any ventilation on the 1K like u would on a PC or laptop or almost any electrical appliance with moving parts and i know laptops give off a ton of heat, so is installing a laptop HD a deathwish???

I'm curious to see how many of u that have lost pads also had internal hard drives? and are there people out there who don't have HD's whose pads have stood the test of time?

yeah i know your all probably sick of talking about the pads by now but if your not interested u dont need to post!

its not glue that fails, its a small carbon square that breaks apart. nothing to do with heat.

*Penny drop* Ohhhh yep. I guess I've been reading up on this stuff so much lately I've mixed a few posts up in my head. so its the carbon. yeah there is that huge 26 page thread about those huh my bad. haha.

anyway as far as the HD goes i like the look of Mekishiko's solid state mod a bit better now that looks pretty cool I might go down that avenue.

honestly, the heat isnt nearly as bad as you are suggesting. not enough to be damaging in any way in my opinion.

carbon is a very heat resistant material so i dont see it causing any problems.

i've had a hdd in my mpc for quite some time. granted i'm using a 2500, but i can leave the mpc on for several hours (left it on over night a couple times too) and i've never had any issues.

it doesn't even get that hot. i'd say, after 3 hours of constant use, loading, recording, playing, saving, etc the mpc is mildly warm. mildly, like half as hot as a laptop.. if that.

not to mention that the drive spins down when youre not reading from/writing to it.
