I have a 2500 as well, and I am using Infineon brand 256mb pc133 CL3, that I got on ebay for less than 10 bucks shipped.

as for CF cards, I am using a pair of 1GB PNY compact flash cards. and a Generic 2GB CF card from a local store to called MicroCenter. I am not sure what speeds these are, but they definitely load faster than the 2.5" 30GB Hard drive I currently have. Not much faster but a noticeable difference, although nothing to complain about nor pay extra for. but I think my 30gb hd is 4200rpm. Im about to get an 80gb 5400rpm one instead, so we'll see.

hope that helps.

On the other hand.. the reason I came to this thread was to see what the fastest CF cards reportedly working without issue. Also what the Largest CF cards being used with JJ OS are, given the 2GB CF card limit under Akai's OS.

Im about to search for this info, but if anyone knows it off the top or can speak from their own experience, please post it here.

THANKS

- SanDisk II Ultra
- SanDisk III Extreme (is it really much faster than II Ultra?)
- which other brands / model are good and fast (and not expensive?)

new here.

just picked up an mpc500 and the first thing i did was upgrade the ram and cf card:

- 256mb kingston ram (kvr133x64sc3/256)
- 2gb kingston cf card

works perfectly 8)

Do some people use Hama cards ? What do you think ?

WHat is the importance of the CF speed ?? Even with a slow CF card (10 Mb/ sec),
it takes only (theoritically) only 13 seconds to fill the 128MB of the RAM...

So why is the speed of CF important ????

kk thank's

the 8GB kingston works like a champ. loads faster than my previous cards too. Not crazy faster, but worth mentioning.
Also, when I got the card I was running JJOS free 3.09 and formatted it and saved, loaded and all that with no problem.
But I was curious about it working in the Akai OS 1.24 since the rumored 2GB limit.
So i tossed 1.24 back on for a second just to test it, and can say now that the rumor is BS.

Im running 1.24 as we speak and just loaded a large project off the card. Im about to test save to it from 1.24 and also do a test format from 1.24. so I'll post those results in a second, but so far, the 2gb limit is false. for me anyway.

yeah I almost went with that one too. but to wait for a hong kong shipment in order to save 40 cents?
no thanks. I spend the extra 40 cents and got mine in 2-3 days.

but hey whatever works.. or takes long for that matter. LOL

Yeah I got a little impatient thinking it would take 4-6 weeks so I bought another memory module from another guy on eBay (the Akai brand). Lo and behold a day after he shipped it, the one from Hong Kong came in the mail. So, I'm going to sell it when it comes.
