bad card reader? save bug/ hd upgrade

ive read through the enitire hd recomendations section and done
numerous searches on the save problem i'm having, and im still
baffled.

i can only save single samples and seqs after getting the message
"file already exists" (which it doesnt) so i overright anyway. this somehow works.

i cannot save progams, all pro, all seg, entire memory or make new
folders. it wont let me overight or rename. ive tried two different cf cards.

the internal memory seems to work fine. i've read that the card readers
in this mpc are prone to failure.

has anyone experienced this issue? will a hd solve this problem? i'd like some reassurence before i drop another bill on this machine.

Sound very similar to the gool old akai OS saving/new folder/directory errors that were causing corruption on CF cards and hard drives. Basically, the AKAI Operating Systems had a bug that causes data to be corrupted on whatever you are saving on. This would cause problems ranging from: system crashes when trying to create a new folder, to missing or "ghost" data that was or was not where it was supposed to be. Check this thread for more info...

P.S. The third party "JJ OS" fixed this bug. You might want to consider installing it. If not, I posted a workaround in the following thread, but I highly recommend the JJ OS because it not only fixes a few bugs in the AKAI OS, but also adds a bunch of great new features.

so my harddrive is gonna mess up since im running the stock 2 10

eventually youll run into the save glitch

i worked around it for about four months before
i couldnt even save programs, all programs, all seqs, entire memory,
or make new folders.

i hope my problem is a bad card reader,
so i could get a hd and use the jj os without the save glitch.

i dont mind working around the wrong file errors because this
box is dope, but not being able to save programs is a kick in the junk

seems my card is fine

DO NOT use "!" "#" "*" etc. when naming and saving files
then machine doesnt seem to like that

save all files to folders (not directly to the root)
and use tbonus's refreash method to avoid problems
until you got $30 for the jj os

Man, I was using a card for about a year with minimal issues. I figured to treat it as a drive on a computer and I ran a the check disk errors command and it resolve any corrupt file issues I as having. I have not had any for a while and I have faith in my CF Card.

Now I just recently installed a HardDisk, and that has been a different experience. I opened a joint talkin bout my issues to see if any one else is having these problems. It seems like the issues you are having on card I am having with the disk. The good thing is I a paranoid so I am always backing ish up. However, there will be that one program I will create and save and then go to reload later on and I get a "file not found" or "wrong file" when trying to load from the disk. I do not know if my experience is rare, but I hae heard a lot praise harddrive usage highly.

if you have 2.10 then you'll get this glitch

this is not a glitch but...
you'll get wrong file if your program has sample deleted sample
assigned to it, and the mpc wont load the rest of the samps.

use tbonus work around, name samlpes correctly ^^^^

jj os fixes the bug if thats what youre experiencing

Did you install the OS by JJ? If so is it stable and does it have an impact on the overall ability of the 1000 in comparison to v2.10?

never had this problem with 2:10 os,sometimes it's how you save.Everything must be in one folder.make sure you make a folder before making a beat. If that don't work,then yes you might want to consider trying JJ's OS.

yeah, keep your work in folders, keep it organized in this box.

i've only had jj os for a week.

it is more user friendly in my opinion.

my favorite addition is mode pad11

he basically put the program parameters, envelopes, fx, all in one
easy to view and adjust list. just makes more sense to me.

it adds more functions which is good for some but i love my 60
which is simple and user friendly (bare bones compared to the 1000)
the jj os is more logically laid out. its all about flow for me thats why
i rock the mpc. the jj os makes a good thing better in my opinion. i dont
want to worry about saving when im getting creative.

jj os is by no means a must, if you can avoid saving errors. you'll still
have a dope portable drum sampler

so is the bottom line that the operating system that the mpc 1000 uses full of bugs. I have not been able to save anything to a compact flash card since i got my mpc 1000. i am so frustrated as i get "system error" messages when i try to save. i bought a new cf disc and it is saying that either my disc is full when its not or that there isnt even a cf disc in when it is. what is wrong with this machine?

I have a 2500 le. I have had it about a year and baby it. I have owned a few different mpc models (2000,2000xl,2500le) I have had this problem with all of them. I have made programs with mpcpgmaker for the mac, and mpc maid for the pc. I originally bought a 2000xl. I liked it but hated the floppy disks, so I added a external scsi compact flash drive from scsiforsamplers. It worked great but sometimes it was hit or miss with the programing. I would use a compact flash usb reader to put the programs from my Mac to the card and later to the compact flash drive and uploaded to my mpc. I sometimes would get "no file found!!" when trying to load the .pgm. Sometimes it would work and sometimes it would'nt. I then later bought a beat up 2000 and fixed it up right and loaded the .pgm's to a usb floppy drive and tried to load it in the 2000, get same error, only on the 2000, it never worked. I then just say **** it and got rid of both of those shits and got a bad ass 2500le. It had compact flash drive and hard drive. I then did the same thing except i had a pc this time. I created the .pgm's and drag and dropped them onto a folder in the hard drive, guess what same **** thing as the 2000xl sometimes it worked and sometimes it didnt. **** fed up! I then took the suggestion of the gentleman above and wiped the 2500le akai os and put on the Free 2500 jjos 3.09. Guess what, SAME THING! So I think to myself, "am i making these programs wrong?" I have no idea, they have worked perectly on the programs themselves that made them, (mpcpgmaker, mpc maid) and sometimes they do work, when i load them on the mpc. I have also encountered another problem, one time i created a full beat, arranged and everything and loaded it fine from the harddrive. It worked fine for a while and right as I was about to track it, it disappered. Nothing is in the folder (pgm, samples, songs, and sequences) then after I seen the nothing was in it, i scrolled the jog wheel around and everything is gone, every folder on the drive. I then swithed the load drive to the compact flash, and then swithed it back to hard disk and everything was back, except for that first song's folder. The min you go back to the song's folder, everything is gone again. Anyway, I love the mpc but damn, this is bullshit. Anyone experience this same thing? Thanks,

Well, after I put the last post I have made a discovery. I turned on the mpc on and said "ill just program from the mpc. So as soon as I tried I noticed in the program folders the would get the error, it had 2 different extensions. 1 was .wav and the other was .WAV. The .wav would not load, but the .WAV would. I then imorted all the wavs into protools and then exported them all back to a new folder and then just moved the .pgm file to the new program folder the was exported from pro tools. I then drag and droped them in my HD and loaded them up perfectly. Never got the error again (still on the free JJos). This is for people who will hopefully later find this post when they are having this problem and save them the trouble. Thanks for the help guys.
