I searched it. Will that actually work? Does it fit in the same as the akai version? Also it's 256 instead of 128 so that means longer recording time correct?

no, just 128, igot a pnyand i know some said kingston ram works

The MPC 1000 can only use half of non-akai ram.
256MB non-akai ram appears to the MPC as 128MB
128MB non-akai ram appears to the MPC as 64MB
The MPC cannot access more than 128MB. If you buy 256MB of non-akai ram you will have the maximum amount of ram useable by the MPC 1000.
I threw in some old 256 MB iBook ram into my MPC 1000. It works great. To do a memory test, hold the PLAY button when you turn on your MPC.

I assumed that that would happen. I didn't think the mpc could hold the 256. But getting a third party card is alot cheaper then the akai version.

Well I took my MPC1K down to a store that specializes in computer chips.
I tried 3 or 4 different chips while at the store and none of them worked.
I finally ended up getting the AKAI chip for free (hooray) from guitar center.
Every non-Akai chip I tried would fail on the 5th or 6th pass.
When I put the AKAI chip in it worked immediately and didn't even have to run various pass tests etc...

You obviously didn't do a proper search through this forum before you went out. Good for you that you got the chip for free, though.
