To MPC or not to MPC?

That is the question at hand, good people.



I recently purchased an MPC 1000 and got all the extras for it. I pretty much got it to get a jump start on my beat making journey.



Soon, I'll have a computer and all my tracks will be digital and I really won't need the MPC once I have converted all my vinyl to mp3/wav files.

Since I still need to buy a computer I'm thinking of selling the MPC and using the monies toward a PC and a legit copy of Reason 4. (my cracked copy doesn't work on Windows 7)



Should I do this?

Advice and thoughts are appreciated.

do you what ever makes you happy i have a mpc and love it but thats what makes me hip hop if reason makes you hiphop do that sounds like to me youre mind is made up

I had an mpc, sold it. I can do stuff so much quicker on my pc and its a lot less storage. Despite the responses u'll get about mpcs being hiphop, do what you are most comfortable with cause in the end thats what matters. For me, i couldn't get used to the required effort of using an mpc. I was samplin and choppin on my pc anyway and then transferin them to mpc and then back to mpc. Skip the middle man and get an mpd/midi controller.

you got a 1k... learn how to use it, sell all ur other shlt, get a mac-(optional, but a must for me)/interface(or multitrack)/monitors and some of that shlt you used to get back in the day.....

depends on whether yours a point/click/qwerty type or a performance/scratch/turntable/instrumenty type, for me , i like the performance aspect of the MPC...really its up 2 you
one word of warning though... record your vinyl on the best equipment you can get...i.e turntable, cart/stylus and soundcard...the better the play/reproduction the better the wav/mp3

jokes apart, I have an MPC and I prefer it to the PC/Mac workflow, but I couldn't agree more with Dedhead and JJbing3, if you're more of a PC person get a controller and enjoy, in the end, you make the music, not your machine.

If you ask for my humble opinion, and I know you're not, sample some stuff on the MPC, place a distorstion, an octaver, an equaliser and another distortion on the output and record the result on your DAW of choise, now unplug the MPC and scream some vocals on the same effects setup.

The result will not be hip hop, but as I said before, I don't play hiphop, be the first guy in your block to play power-electronics, everybody will make fun of you, but one day they'll realise you were way ahead of your time!

dehehe...or double the bpm's , add gabber kicks, distortion, more distortion, dark pads, drones and hypnotic speech samples and be the first mpc breakcorer in your town

Not quite. I posted an ad on Craigslist. If no one picks it up, I'll have to save the money for a computer anyway.

So, i'll still have the mpc, i may not use it as much as i do now. i don't like to have stuff just laying around.

the only shit i'm selling is the MPC and a Numark turntable and mixer. at first, i felt like a fanboy. like i had to have one because everyone that makes sick beats has one. but that's not true.

it really is about what works better for me. i hate the workflow on the MPC. the time i take to name everything and save it, i usually lose the vibe i had before i turned the sh!t on. really annoying at this point. oh and it has frozen on me a number of times.

I'm not really the performance type. at least i'm not right now in my life. i was first introduced into this world on Reason 2.0

That's where my roots are when it comes to making beats. I know it better than any other program i've dealt with. I have ideas in my head and I can get them out faster on Reason than I can on the MPC. I got tons of records and all I want to do right now is chop every single song I have on vinyl. I can do it faster on a computer rather than a dedicated device like a sampler.

As far as the stylii/cartridges are concerned, noted. I'll look into that. I was on turntablelab.com and saw what they have to offer. lots of good sh!t.

I agree. I don't give a damn if people think the MPC is hiphop. Fuk them. I make what ever. I won't ever restrict myself to thinking inside a box. I'll make a hip hop track. ppl will love it, then i'll make a jazz song. after that bossa nova and so on and so forth.

what ever sounds good to me, i'm going to attempt to make it. A PC will help me do it faster than the MPC.

I like it, but I don't need it.

So if you guys know anyone in LA looking for a good deal on this unit. I'll be more than happy to speak with them.

black. all stock. haven't changed a thing. i barely used it. I originally wanted $1000 but now I'm asking for $750 [FIRM]. I fitted it with the HDM-10 w/120GB and the EXM-128. you know, the essentials.
