0db in global settings

i just wonder which global option do you prefer on your MPC when U play live:
-6db or 0db ?

any concern about 0db option for getting the maximum loudness ?

To prevent clipping it's better to keep it at a -6db from what I've experienced.

Or even -12db if you've really got a lot of stuff going on.

You can always have somebody increase the volume on the console to compensate if necessary. I really wouldn't worry too much about 'maximum' volume as there are plenty of ways to increase the signal after the MPC.

I'd be more worried about having a good mix with enough headroom on the 1k.

yeah, I've been using -6db for years. i use the input thru with 2 mono synths, adding some internal effect, etc... actually needs to find the good balance between: Main Console<-Effectprocessor<-MPC Record In<-Synth Volume.
if I just pull the MPC Record In level too high it also gains the unwanted hiss noise.
eliminating the hiss is the key point here for me. that is why I am experimenting the 0db, low Record In level on the MPC with minimum headroom.

Where do you ajust that? On the main volume? How do you know how many db? (probably that's not what you talkin' about)
What is the optimal record volume? I allways record as loud as possible (until the level almost reach the end of it). That's not good? Should I turn it back more?

Its in the OTHER section. If you use the Digital in/out I find that you need to turn the main volume down to as low as -18 to avoid clipping. So I generally keep it at -18 if I'm connected to other equipment. If I use it on it's own, I generally set it to -6 just to be safe. Peace.

If you can use the spdif digital out you can negate a lot of the noise floor and just deal with the synths coming in.

Nothing wrong with using 0db for your master out as long as you leave yourself enough headroom to not create digital distortion/clipping.

I personally use -12db/-6db depending on what I am doing, and mostly so I can get a little bit more sound through my headphones.

Detomasso, are you using inherently noisy synths, or maybe have a ground loop problem? I usually don't hear too much noise that I have to deal with when running my Voyager in. Maybe I'm not being picky enough though . Usually it's my turntable that has way more noise, but it probably needs to be repaired :/.

no the synths are not noisy at all. actually I'm talking about a little 'shhhhhh' noise when I turn all the volume up on all my devices just for test. in a big PA system this can be really hearable.
but this is more or less normal. it is only hearable when for example I Solo a track with a single hihat or snare only; so there is no other sound at the same time that could sustain that basic hiss. it has been just started to bother me how can I minimize this.
I have a feeling that it can be a side effect of hard compressor setting in my MPC. surely.
I will test it.
