Double Notes on new MPC1000 pads

I just bought a new MPC1000 (black with the new pads) and I am getting double notes on some pads occasionally. Is there a fix for this? Is this unusual? Should I send it back for a new one?

I think you just have to break in the new pads.

Are you using it on a hard surface? I had mine set up on a kind of bouncy keyboard stand and was getting lots of doubles, but when I use it on a sturdy table, not really.

Sounds silly, but are 2 fingers hitting the pads? Sometimes I have to use 1 finger to avoid flam.

Very true. I really think it's just a technique thing. I had this problem a little bit when I first got the new pads, but I forgot all about it. After a while, you naturally adjust to it, and it won't bother you at all.
As far as breaking in new pads... I think thats a myth myself. Could easily be wrong though.

Indeed....breaking in new pads is complete nonsense....

So if i buy a new MPC it could be that the first half year i have to work with double triggered samples due to breaking in of the pads...
No MPC would then be sold is it..?

Make sure your unit is on a solid surface and hit the pads with one finger ... no more double triggering !

yes, it happens to me too (with the mpc2000 and the mpd24)
and... yes, the machine must be placed on a solid surface

A simple pad swap shouldn't cause you to get double notes. Are you sure that you're fingering technique is correct?

I haven't swapped the pads, this is a brand new store bought unit.

I always use only one finger.

However, come to think of it, the times I have had the worst problem with double notes have been when the device was not on a hard surface. Also, one of the rubber feet is slightly shorter than the others. I have now added some tape to that foot to level the device out.

I will experiment on a hard surface tonight and see if this improves things.

Sorry, misread your post, thought you had gotten the black pads (not the stock grey ones) sorry for my bad.

i had this problem as well, and luckily there is a solution. (mpc bkn new pads)

first off, when using akai os, i didnt really have this prob.

as soon as i changed to jj, i was double triggering like a madman,
the simple solution is adjusting the velocity to your personal preference... and it definatly sucks to do that
the trick is to check track mute mode and see if its turning it on and off...

if this doesnt work, let me know... i was pissed at first.

also, my data wheel was so **** up with akai os, it would go three for every one
jj os set it straight, which is ironic because the os it came with didnt react well with the data wheel
