Either a dumb question, or a stupid mistake by Akai

Simple question:

Is there any way to enter numbers in a name field (of a sequence, sample, etc) other than manually scrolling to it with the data wheel? (on default OS)

If so, then it is just something I apparently couldn't figure out myself.
If not, then this will be another small thing to add to my list of small things that annoy me in the default Akai OS. (still not enough to convince me to pay for jjos)

I don't own a 1000 but when I look at a pic of it I see a numeric button and also numbers beside the pads

The naming system on jjos1 is worth it for the money on its own! ( i think the free version has the good naming system too but cant remember)

The Jjos naming system is where you scroll to a letter, but it shows the whole list of letters and the current position of the cursor in the list, right?
Can you still use the akai style of typing in jjos, using pads to select letters similar to a phone? Because I like that system, except for the mentioned numbers issue.

I am aware of the numerical button and the assigned numbers to pads(as well as enter, cancel, ".", and +/-), but the button is only functional in some parameters, such as start and end times in trim mode. The numerical button seems to be inactive in the name edit window, hence my annoyance.

Use the numeric button in conjuction with the pad assigned to the number. IE Pad Numeric + Pad 1 for the number 1.

EDIT: The numeric button is next to the jog wheel.

I'll repeat what I already said:
I know what the numeric button does. I know that you can use it to edit certain parameters by directly typing a number using the pads, such as in trim mode with the start and end times.
But when I want to edit, say, a sequence name, I would first select the sequence name in the main screen. Then I would press the window button, and turn the data wheel one click to enter edit mode of the name field.
Once I am editing the sequence name, the numeric button does not seem to work. Is there a workaround to this, or do I have to just continue having to manually scroll to the number I want?

I just read the part of the manual and.....yes you are right, there is no other way to use numbers in namefields than using the datawheel. This is another time I think what the heck was goin on in their(programmers) minds? They implement this numeric button to use it ONLY for numeric fields

keep that in mind next time you think about purchasing a new akai product.
their support is bogus and their hardware sometimes needs user modification in order to work properly...

+ 1000. They truly are a company that are setting the gold standard for non-existent customer service !

Well I finally switched to jjos, I don't know why I hadn't done it yet.

Much improvement over the akai os, and I've only found one glitch so far. (in the whole program mode, when holding f4 or f5 to change the range, and hitting a pad consistently freezes the mpc, requiring you to turn it off.)
Buy still no numeric in name fields...
