1000 Build Quality?

Found very little upon doing a search here (and a few other places) on the actual build quality of the 1000!
Curious as to how this thing is built because I'm really not in the market to be buying several MPCs over time. I'd really like for my first to be around for a long, long while. Looking at picking up the 1000 and getting one of the JJs on it. If I can't find a 1000 at a good price, I'm gonna have to go the 500 route. Argh!

Anyway - are the 1000 built to last? I've read a few things and some think the build is kinda janky feeling and such. I'm just looking for something I can bang around on and maybe stick in my backpack here and there. The portability factor was the only reason I was looking at the 500 actually, still doesn't seem like a bad machine. Seems like there are some out there that rock it!

I feel the motif though - the user makes the machine, not the other way around, so the 500 doesn't scare me I just don't want to give up all the I/O that the 1000 has to offer + all the cool shit that JJOS adds!

Buy a 1000, look after it, and you'll have no problems - even buying a used one should be alright if has been looked after and has the newer style pads or upgrade kit.
I've used and abused mine and the only problem its had is with old style pads.

Whats the reason you want portability?
If being portable is REALLY important, I'd be tempted with the 500 as the 1000 isn't exactly light in your backpack and takes up quite a bit of room if your carrying other stuff as well. Also if you want it portable to use wherever then the 500 runs on batteries...
A 1000 with a laptop case?

I've never used a 500 though so can't comment on build quality or the machine itself though. I have thought about getting one myself to play about with in the garden or whilst waiting for the girlfriend to hurry up

keep in mind that the screen of the 500 is small and not capable of displaying graphics (e.g. waveforms). imho the 1000 is portable enough and only weights about 4 kg.

but the greatest feature the 1000 has over the 500 is the jjos. this os is the bomb.

the newer mpc models are not really build to last (my 2000xl was built like a tank, my 1000 not that much ). but like hp said, look after it, get a can of deoxit, learn how to solder and you should be fine.

Dissatisfied customers are the most vocal.

About being careful - I take care of all of my pieces right down to the dollar! Especially ANY that come with me anywhere!

About being mobile - I have a ton of friends that have tons of really beautiful property. Some of the most gorgeous music I've made has been out somewhere remote, thanks to the fact I 'major' in drums!

I am just looking out because an MPC on a huge hillside over looking the lake sounds like something so gorgeous I really would hate to miss out! If I get the 1000 I am definitley going to get the JJOS. If not, I'll enjoy being mobile. Sounds good enough for me! Now... To find either at a god price!
