Hi there,

I'm at a complete loss. I have a problem and have no clue how to continue. Let me explain what's happening and what I have tried...

The problem: I can not get a sequence to start with play start or start alone.

What I did:

I recently bought an MPC 1000 - the blue one - with (if it matters) a pad upgrade and RAM upgrade. I bought the eBook for JJ OS 3.12 from mpc-samples.com and started from there.

- Loaded JJ OS v3.13 bin file on an CF card with a USB cable and followed the instructions to install.
- Formatted the CF card from the load menu in the newly installed OS.
- Started following the ebook and successfully finished the first steps from the loading chapter (put the "EXAMPLE" folder on the CF card, loaded the program in RAM and loaded the sequence in RAM).

Up until here everything is fine but when the tutorial says, lets listen to the beat by pressing "MAIN" and then "PLAY START", nothing happens!

I know the program loaded correctly because I can press the pads and hear the beats.
I know the sequence loaded correctly because I can see the notes when I go to step edit.
I know the "PLAY START" button is working because when I move the start of sequence up (navigate the cursor to "Now:" in my screen and turn the dial) and press "PLAY START" the time will actually jump back to 001.01.00 but it doesn't play...

Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong or what I can try?

I followed the tutorial to the detail with a fresh install of the OS and a formatted CF card.

The only thing I can think of is that the OS is a bit newer (3.13 instead of 3.12) but the version number doesn't really suggest a major update...

I appreciate all the help I can get. It's kind of a bummer since I wanted to sit down and get as far with the manual as I could get but instead I have been breaking my head on the very first mention of "play" for hours now...

I forgot to mention that I could not record either... Holding REC and hitting PLAY START would do nothing.

But I have been messing with it even more now and have just loaded the original OS 2.13 on the MPC. I can start sequences without any problems and I can record as well.

I have also tried loading the program and sequence from the example folder that belongs with the tutorial and the problem is definitely not in the files. I can start the sequence and I can record/overdub.

Could anybody provide me with the 3.12 version so I can try if I have the same problems? I can't find older versions of the OS...

I bought the tutorial so I can get into JJ OS free and upgrade to one of the paid versions when I get the hang of it. It will probably be better to start learning with JJ OS when I have the intentions of buying the OS anyway. Am I right?

Hi

I just loaded up the EXAMPLE folder in an MPC1000 running the free 3.13 OS and get no problems, the sequence plays and REC + PLAY START works fine.

Someone may have to refresh my memory, but you should initialise the system after a new OS install, I believe you have to hold down the ERASE button during power up. Could you try that?

Wow! Many thanks guys! I'm already late for work but I couldn't resist trying. Installed the JJ OS 3.13 again, shut the MPC down and started it up again holding erase... Complete success!
