Say you loaded up a sliced drum break to a program and you wanted to quickly move the samples around on the pad layout. Is there a way to quickly swap settings between two pads?

First off, not sure what the hell you mean by hotswap even though I know what hotswap means.

To answer the question though, the only way I know of is;

mode->program
press the pad you wanna change
scroll to the sample you want on there

But I think that's how you loaded to the program in the first place so not sure what exactly your looking for.

Well let's say you had a whole drum kit setup with multiple samples on each pad and all sorts of crazy settings.

Now say that later on you wanted to swap the contents of pad A01 with pad A02 for finger placement reasons. Or keep pads on deck on bank B and swap B01 with A01 so you can switch out individual pads.

In something like fxpansion Geist you just press a swap button, then press A01, then A02. It just swaps the contents between the two pads.

Just curious if there is a way to do this on the MPC1000 without having to reprogram everything

two ways i can think of is to use next bank, or to copy program and then use program change., You still have to make programs, but to copy programs can be a big help, and also in JJOs you can copy pad settings to another pad as well

in GPE, scroll to the pad name column (a01, a02, etc)

holding UNDO while hitting different pads will copy them from 1 to another
there is no swap, but you can use an empty pad as a temporary space holder as you copy your shit around
