Ok you do realize that MIDI is not sound right? MIDI is not sound then I think is first thing to tell you. Google MIDI and read about it to get an idea. Then you need to read manual of course, and then you will know what the USB is for on MPC1000. And then you have to decide if you want sound or midi or both recorded in your DAW.

So no surprise at all you are failing here. I will break it down for you. MPC sound needs to go into your sound card of computer. Nearly every one here will have a USB/Firewire/USB3 device with inputs to plug microphones, instruments ect into. This is a AD/DA DAC. So plug your MPC1000s outs into your soundcard which is a DAC. Then DAW will hear it. NOT the USB. USB on MPC1000 is for transfering files only. Its in the manual. It does not use the USB as a sound interface. It just mounts the hard drive/cf card to your computer only, so you can transport files. (this means you can sample your own beat and transfer it off to computer as well)
MIDI has to go to midi in of your computer. Most computers have no midi in of course, so you have to get something like a USB to MIDI device. MIDI is a small amount of info by todays standard. Just stereo recording is thousands times more info for computer to compute, and move around from sound card to hard drive and DAW. So you can get USB to midi devices, some need drivers. This means it will take midi signal and make it go through USB into computer, remember its not sound, just bits of info.
