Keyboards are not left-right right-left hand oriented in anyway that I know of. You could however switch the tune on keys, instead of escalating up towards the right, you can edit the keys to escalate twords the left (reverse order) but that would take a little editing work on your part.

damn, does anyone know how to do this little editing thast i'd have to do...........

Holmes, what is it you would like to do "left handed" with your synth? Keyboards are inherantly ambidextrous instruments, unless, as Lampdog suggested, you actually WANT to play the keys in reverse.

The lack of reverse key setups is not some grand conspiracy against lefties, it's a matter of constancy across all instruments with keys. Why would you want to have a separate alphabet simply because someone works with the other hand than you do?

I'm sure several of the more important composers, concert pianists and jazz musicians out there are lefties, and they do just fine with traditional setups.

Editing your keys to they act goofy-foot is simple but it'll vary from machine to machine what the process is exactly.

Anyway, I'm still confused as to why you would want to do this is why I bother posting.

ok tank, im guessing your right handed so you wouldn't know....... it's more natural for a left handed person to play the keys in reverse.. (a mirror image of a standard keyboard)............ just like its more natural for a right handed person to use rulers,sharpeners,ring binders,corkscrews,cheque books, the keyboard your typing on etc.......... r all made for right handed peoples ease)

you even said yourself that editing keys on a synth is a simple, ill just figure it out myself because you wrote all that in your reply and didnt answer my question...........

My sister is a wonderful pianist and she's left handed.
I can understand a guitar being left or right handed as the actions performed by each hand are quite different. On a piano both hands are playing the keys in exactly the same manner, so does it make any difference which plays the low notes and which plays the high ones?

Also if you learn to play backwards and your custom synth breaks, say if your giging, you're not gonna find a backwards replacement in time so you're f*cked.

Finally, in answer to your question, as pretty much all synths and samplers are built with the assumption that a keyboard goes from left to right, it's gona be nigh on impossible to map a single sample over several notes - backwards. You'd need a sample individualy mapped to every key and the RAM that would take - Sheesh.

Oh, and I take it all back: since there seem to be enough people interested in a left handed instrument to actually build some it oviously is a usefull thing for Lefties, I guess it helps with expression in the playing and that sort of thing [like it says in that link]. And plus, with that midi converter it would be really easy to set up. Power to the Lefties [or something].

its more natural for a right handed person to play the high notes with thier right hand and their LH playing the low notes........ just like a cheque book is more natural for a RH'der to write on (think about it)............

Hi, I registered just to reply to this because I was googleing this same thing, reverse keyd claviatures or whatever you call it in English, I live in Sweden and this topic could be 10 years old, Im too lazy to look it up, but I have to say:

I am right handed and has Always been.

I played guitar righthandedly for years. Then Jimi Hendrix came into my ears and I became experienced. Only people that are experienced understand what Im talking about. It means you know, by listening, why they called him the greatest guitarplayer that ever lived. You either are experienced or you're not.

Then I restrung the guitar and it made a World of difference. The guitar should be played left handedly. I dont care how it sounds. Some people even called me stupid for simply stating what I noticed after switching. This is why the guy who wrote "My sister is a lefty in does fine on the piano".

Did Hendrix do "just fine"?

Realize that your creative hemisphere Controls the left side of your body. A study showed that left handers are less prone to brain disease in elder years due to implementing both hemispheres as opposed to us rightys who mistly only use our left half of the brain, because we only use our our right side or hand of the body.
