MIDI via Ableton to MPC 1000

I am getting an MPC 1000 in the coming days, and I have previously been using Ableton with an MPK mini midi controller. I am wondering if it is possible to use the keys on the midi controller, through Ableton, to send sounds to be recorded over the MPC. I realize that midi is not sound, just information, but I would be using sounds included in Ableton to send to the MPC. I would like to be able to record these sounds on the MPC (before I was thinking of making the beat, that is, drums and sample, on the MPC, transferring that file into Ableton and basically playing midi instruments over top of the beat I made on the MP). I realized that this would most likely end up being an awkward two step process, so is there any way I can record THROUGH Ableton using the MPK into the MPC? Also, please note that there are no actual midi plug ins on the MPK mini, just usb, though I assume this would be irrelevant seeing as I would not be connecting the MPK directly to the MPC.

B00007JRBM That being said, I want the midi audio from ableton to be played out of the mpc, not the laptop speakers because I will be using the headphone jack on the mp to listen to both stuff being created on the mpc and stuff being created on the mpc through ableton (my midi sounds)... Will this work? Obviously i will have to tweak some settings in ableton for audio output but I'm sure I can figure that out.

ok steamer lets start at the beginning then. MIDI is indeed not sound but note info. So you need a midi interface to send out or receive midi from/to MPC. In fact I do this myself with Live and A MPC1000.
Your MPK has USB so plug that in and use it to control live. Now with midi interface you can send that midi from MPK through to live to MPC through your midi interface. Now of course the reverse is true, if set right, and you can indeed use MPC to play notes ect to Live.
So that is midi sorted. Now sound - simply plug output of computer into MPC input and monitor it to hear both. simple.
MIDI WILL NOT SEND SOUND.
So try above and get back to us with more questions if need be, but above will set you right, though sync is a **** and that is the first problem you will have, so set that right in Live to get it all synced in time. And yes you can not use USB on MPC1000 for midi. You can transfer midi files though, which is different.

Thanks for the reply! I've decided to not use the MPK, as I'm perfectly ok with playing out midi sounds on the MPC pads, not the MPK keys. That being said, I was hoping to use a usb midi interface connected from the MPC to my computer, and record the sounds output from the computer right on to the MPC. So, when I hit record on the MPC with it in midi mode, I can record the sound being output from my computer/ableton on to the MPC. I was confused as to if it would record in to ableton, not on the MPC. Bottom line I want to have it all on one file on the MPC, not the drums and sample on the MP, and the recorded midi sounds on the computer. So basically when I press play on the MP after recording, the sounds will have been recorded on to the MP. I hope this is clear, thanks.
