hard drive and internal memory problem?

Hello everybody, I have got my mpc 1000 recently and I also got hard drive kit install correctly. I also brought 40 gig of hard drive and brought full version of jj os 1but when I load the sample or try to create music the space that it take is the internal memory, which is 16mb it won't use the hard drive memory. So how can we set the hard drive as the main memory?
