MPC 1000 Beginner Setup

Hey all,

I am making the move from computer-based, Reason beat making to an MPC 1000. Just wanted to confirm that my setup is proper...

I have an MPC 1000, a Preamp, and am buying a turntable once I get paid next. I plan to follow the following setup:

Turntable RCA > preamp input 1
MPC Stereo out > preamp input 2
Preamp output > MPC stereo input

I plan to use headphones in the preamp... this setup will allow me to hear my samples as i audition them on the turntable, and also hear my work on the MPC correct? The amp has both "Input 1" and "Input 2" channels, so I plan to listen to my records on Input 1, record them into the MPC, then switch to Input 2 and hear what Im doing within the MPC as I construct the beat.

Does this make sense/will it work? Is a mixer required?
