Can a footswitch plugged into the mpc be used to start stop

The question is pretty simple.

Can a footswitch plugged into the mpc be used to start stop other devices through midi? i'm trying to map out midi on my computer through the mpc and all the pads register a signal on the comp but the footswitch doesnt seem to make it past the npc. is this just the way it is or can i do something to change this? THANKS

I use JJOS3 which has the ability to reassign those footswitch inputs for many things, including Start & Stop (PLAY, START PLAY, STOP...)
