the whole package gets better when you switch to jjos. i would not necessarily claim the mpc 1000 is an all in one box but that doesnt mean you couldnt do something great with it alone. the fx are nothing to write home about but the sequencer is one of the finer available in hardware (with jjos only).

I'm currently using jjos2xl but the fx are still trash just purchased sp303 as a fx pass through my 1000 is straight crazy now

fair play at least its filters are decent! patch building has just enough depth to be useful. dont rely on its fx but go ahead and sample your sounds through your better effects or with the compressor etc. buy a 2500 if you need the extra outs.
