MPC 1000 MIDI ANNOYANCE

So I'm sequencing an Alpha Juno 2 and an Arturia Microbrute from my MPC1k. When I record a midi signal from the out of juno2 to in on mpc, it A; only records a split second of the midi note or B; chokes all of my programmed drum samples.. all my midi settings are correct, right channels etc etc.. turning of local control is not really and option at the moment as I'm playing a sequence with multiple chords and pads are a pain in the ass..
what am I doing wrong?

you got the "program" in the mpc set to off? sounds like you have your drum program there and your triggering it when you play keys, hence why your cutting drums off.

i typically leave the track channel on "DRUM" too, rather than "MIDI", found it makes no difference as i turn program to "OFF" - never really understood this feature.

yeah man program is set to off.. only seems to come and go though. I think it might be a bung midi cable or something. thanks for the reply mate

Hey man from googling real quick it looks like the Alpha juno has the same issue as my roland D-50: it sends out an "all notes off" midi CC message whenever you release all the keys from the keyboard. I think this is just a crappy feature of Roland synths from a certain era. You have a couple options:

I'm not familiar with the alpha juno but you should check the manual to see if you can turn it off. The D-50 doesn't have this option but you never know.

You can upgrade to JJOS3 which has a midi filter that can filter out the message (CC 123).

You can buy a little midi filtering box to remove the CC message. Midi Solutions sells a "midi router" and "midi event processor" which will both work, there's something called a MidiPal and a different box called an Arpie which both have filtering as a feature but they're build--it-yourself electronic kits.

Those are the only solutions I know of! But it's almost definitely not your midi cable.
